For this release we’ve added a couple more realistic icons to the ‘Aircraft icons’ in-app, including the Airbus Beluga and ground traffic vehicles. We’ve also fixed some bugs related to squawk alerts and filter issues plus improved how objects are animated in the app.
For the recent 5.0 release most of the app was redesigned and now:
- You can quickly zoom map to your location by clicking the arrow icon in the bottom left corner of the screen
- The ‘Go to’ menu has been replaced by ‘Airport search’ (available in the Search menu by clicking the magnifying glass symbol)
- The Augmented reality (AR) view is accessible by clicking the ‘AR’ icon in the top menu
- Alerts functionality has been improved and has its own menu (available by clicking the menu icon in the top left corner)
- The map radar is still available, go to ‘Settings’ to switch it on
If you like what you see in this release, feel free to go to the app store and give us a 5-star rating. Reviews of previous versions of the app are removed with each new release.

HOW IT WORKS
Most aircraft today are equipped with so called ADS-B transponders that transmit positional data. Flightradar24 has a rapidly growing network of several thousand ground stations around the world to receive this data that then shows up as aircraft moving on a map in the app. In an expanding number of regions Flightradar24, with the help of multilateration, is able to calculate the positions of aircraft that don’t have ADS-B transponders.
Traditional radar data is also used in the app thanks to a direct feed from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This data provides near real-time coverage of all US and Canadian airspace.
***IMPORTANT NOTICE - COVERAGE***
If you are only interested in tracking air traffic in a specific region, we suggest that you check Flightradar24.com BEFORE purchasing the app. Flightradar24 provides unrivaled positional aircraft data coverage around the world but there are areas where we don’t have coverage.
Overview of coverage as of November 2013:
* Europe: close to 100%
* North America: 100% of US and Canada via slightly delayed radar data. Real-time coverage for most of US, Canada and Mexico for ADS-B equipped aircraft
* South America: Substantial coverage in most countries including Brazil, Argentina and Chile
* Asia: Substantial coverage in most major Asian countries including Japan, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, UAE, Malaysia, Taiwan and many other countries. Rapidly expanding coverage in China
* Oceania: Nearly complete coverage in Australia and New Zealand
* Africa: Substantial coverage in South Africa. Limited but growing coverage in the rest of the region
Coverage is subject to change at any time.

Good app for kids & I to track my husbands many business flights, also spot any big planes flying over. Id give 5 stars, but the augmented reality has not been working. Had a low flying southwest jet over my house in perfect view and pointed camera right up at it and it said no planes in view. Its an interesting app, have had fun watching what kinds flying over .
Not very accurate. Not really "real time". Flights suddenly disappear nowhere near an airport, and with too much altitude. Was entertaining at first, until I noticed all the inaccuracies. $1.99 was not a good value to me. I'm disappointed because the app has a lot of potential.
Good app for kids & I to track my husbands many business flights, also spot any big planes flying over. Id give 5 stars, but the augmented reality has not been working. Had a low flying southwest jet over my house in perfect view and pointed camera right up at it and it said no planes in view. Radar showed plane about 8 minutes behind. Wish that worked better. Also radar showed planes close over my house, I run outside & no plane .. Check radar again and its course changed. Ive ran outside many times and nothing there even though radar says so. Custom alerts for 2.99 was a mistake for me, you have to really know makes, models of aircraft to know what to choose . All i wanted is a general notify me when a 747 is approaching my house feature..but u have to enter company, type aircraft, icao code, trigger, which I have no idea. Wonder if itunes will refund me for that upgrade? So dont bother buying it unless you know what you're doing.
this is by far the best flight radar/tracking app available also get the 4.99 upgrade it's worth it!!
I rarely take the time to write a review, but I felt this App was worth it. It is well designed and very intuitive. I find myself looking at the App and gazing at the sky to identify planes. It is fun and well worth the price. You get a kick out of watching a plane and identifying it in the App in real time.
I can watch approximately 80% of the planes on the map in a live time especially when I look on the sky & point my device into it watching the planes & knowing their details & destination But I wish this app to add more sort of planes & other airports I Thank staff very much for their efforts & works
I purchased this app after purchasing radarbox24. ( radarbox24 sounded like the best one in reviews) In my area, Southern California, flightradar24 beats radarbox24 pro hands down. If pay an extra $1.99 you get the type of plane icon too which is really cool. Anyhow my advice is buy flightradar24 not radarbox24 . I'm really happy with this app!
I bought this app a couple days ago and I can't stop using it. I am amazed at the information available on flights all over the world, anytime, and with the two additional apps within the program for an arrivals board and the plane specs page, it covers everything you could want to know. I travel on business all over the world and this app is like having constant contact with the entire earth. I hit one setting by accident, held my ipad upwards, and suddenly I was tracking flights over my apartment in Manhattan! Each one in real time as it takes off, lands, and taxis around the airport. Astonishing. Best app I have ever seen in my whole life.
Still unable to download the in-app purchase of airplane pictures. The only dialogue box is "dismiss." Other than that this application is outstanding.
The Augmented Reality has both my friends and I saying "wow!" We're a tough audience on tech gadgets, but this is seriously cool. I see great coverage over California. There's a few minute delay, but it's not a big deal. Now I know what the jumbo jet that goes over after work is a cargo flight from Shanghai, and I was thrilled to find out what a 747 was doing at SJC. (Flight from HKG diverted from SFO.) Want to see where all the A380s or 787s are, right now? If you are an airplane fan, you need this.
This app is the best!
It is so fun to watch flight patterns and be able to use the A.R. to point out planes. I wish the 3D was a little more accurate and not as choppy. Hopefully improvements for that are coming. Still one of the most fun apps on my iPhone.
Use it almost every day now that I live in sunny California and see so many planes in the sky! The app is accurate and seems to find 80-90% of the planes I look for.
I was so glad I found the app. I use it extensively since I work in aerospace. My only issue thus far is that with each update, you lose a feature. My major thing is the custom alerts. The first update got rid of them, and while the second one replaced them, the alerts don't remain active if you close the app. It wasn't like this before and I wish they would fix this. I'm not going to keep entering alerts every time I open the app. And by the alerts deleting themselves, I miss arrival times and cannot greet planes like I used to with this app. Please fix!
It's one of amazing realistic apps I've seen for airlines tracker, I was listening to the airport tower communications while seeing the planes respond actions.
Northadam... To use the arrivals board that you purchased click on the blue icon that is an airport and then the name of the airport will pop up. Then press the arrow button on the far right-hand side of the airport name and that will take you to the arrivals board.
Must turn on compass calibration in privacy/location for AR to work properly. But I purchased arrivals board in app and can't see how to use it.
This is a great app for an active plane spotter like me. The new update has a problem with displaying the picture of the plane though. It just comes up a white box.
Outstanding one of my favorite apps.
I first bought radarbox24 based on its reviews, but was very disappointed. Flightradar24 has more, better and live info for each flight, advanced functions and filters, nicer photos and does not crash if you happen to zoom out far. Earlier poor ratings for this app must have been for a previous version. Highly recommended!
Well when it manages to find a flight, it is great! Altitude, speed, direction...bla bla. The trouble is, it only finds flights some of the time. Flights that show up easily on Google seem to be a mystery to this app. Too bad, as it had promise. Before any of you app groupies begin the gum flapping.,, I said it works well sometimes. Accept that as a partial complement and statement of fact. Be well
The app is great but the AR doesn't work, it's always stuck at north.
What worked before no longer does. Feel cheated paying for this Pro version and in-app purchases.
I am a commercial rated pilot flying general aviation. So therefore, an aviation enthusiast. I was introduced to flightradar24, on the web, by a friend of mine in Moscow, Petr. It is great! So is this iPhone app. I follow My favorite flights to Vienna for instance, the ones I ride, watch them approach destinations, see the view I see from the likes of the plane's nose camera. As I stand somewhere I can see an airplane high above me, whip out the iPhone, fire up the app, and know what it is, who it is, how high, from where and destination. If you have any travel romance in you at all, use this to expand your horizons as it were. For the couple of dollars buy the "Pro" app, it is so much more fun! UPDATE! Two months I have been having great fun with Flightradar24 on my iPhone 4. This is amazing, truly awesome! UPDATE ! UPDATE re: Upgrade to 5.0.2 I upgraded from 4.8 which I had given 5 stars. I just removed 5.0.2 from my iPhone and reloaded 4.8 from my iTunes. Someone does not know what "well enough" is! You changed basic aspects of user interface/user friendliness. For NO APPARENT REASON that I can see. I am back at Flightradar24 v.4.8 happiness! The home screen "look" is your "brand".
As a current 777 Captain/Check Airman with an international carrier, I wanted to track our flights real time. This version can't even stay up to date while other less intricate apps do so quite well. This is a worthless app.
A lot of flights in Brazil with wrong data, like destination. Doesn't have all the flights.
One of my favorite apps. Work still needed, however, the support is great. Thanks to those working so hard to improve this app.
Amazing app for aviation geeks and airplanes lovers..highly recommended..I don't use it daily..I use it every 5 minutes
This app is amazing, the best $2.99 spent in a long time.
Best app ever
Last "Big" update screwed everything up.. My Pro version worked Perfect before the update, now almost all the "non commercial" jets and private aircrafts have wrong or no info, or not showing dep/arr info.. Like I dont see why an update would make this app from what it used to be (5 stars) and downgrade to what i think it should be.. Whats going on!
App works great now after update with screen rotation
Likes the old version love the latest update.
Awesome,worth the money!
Four months ago, when I bought the App, it was great. But nowadays I do not see flyghts I saw before, specially in Brazilian airports. What is happening?
App perfeito
This new update made it a lot better. Thank you
For a civilian air traffic app there is nothing better than this!! GREAT JOB GUYS!!
This app changed the flight number and destination in mid-track, several times now. Please fix the bug. This is not a good thing.
Nice app. Very useful, waiting for the updates
This is a very cool app. Extremely intuitive to use.
Latest update release not working; crashes!
Add compass to current location. It would be nice to be able to identify which plane you're looking at based on your direction
Too often it shows aircraft in the vicinity that aren't there, other times I'm looking at an aircraft and cannot locate it on the tracker. I understand that if the aircraft isn't sending a signal it can't be tracked but I'm not happy about the high number of discrepancies I've identified. An OK app but I'm looking for something better.
This is my favorite aviation app. I'm currently tracking my friends flight from CDG-LAX on an A-380. I can see their flight live and see other flights around them as their entering Canadian airspace. Love this app!!
The latest update is great! By far I haven't found any bugs. And It's always been a pleasure to know which flight is above my head.
The last two updates have reduced the functionslity of the live radar feature near useless. Have tries on two ipads and it is not usable. Other apps keep improving this one not too much.
The new airport search feature is pretty useless and is not a filter!! It's just a directory of all the airports in each country that shows you where they are on the map. For a paid app, I'm highly disappointed that there's no airport filter like the website!! Also, I wish the airport list add-on would tell me plane type without having to drill down each flight number.
Would be cool to have a weather radar overlay.
Updated: Nicely done update (v5). Thanks. Probably should have made note of this earlier, but better late than never? Hopefully it will highlight something that others are experiencing. All in all, this is a great app, and I do like the new style data blocks. Even with the new animation, it seems to bring up the data faster. Perhaps the distance progress bar is a bit thin (and the mileage text a bit small). So, about long great circle routes: It seems like any path above a certain latitude is not being transformed to the map projection properly. This update at least is trying to draw the projected path, whereas it just wouldn't try. Previously, paths (such as JFK to Hong Kong) would track northerly for a bit, then dogleg to the east almost in a straight line. It does something similar now (just looked at a LAX-IST over NV), but takes the eastern track at a lower lat. For me, I enjoy tracking routes that take a flight over some of the more extreme places on earth, and I'm missing that right now. Also, it would be terrific if you could allow viewing beyond 180° longitude. It's difficult to visualize a transpacific flight when you pan west, hit 180°, then need to pan all the way back easterly to 180° and mentally connect the flight path. Thanks again for a very fun app for a (now armchair) pilot. With the above addressed, this could become a 5-star app. Well done. One more afterthought: when following a flight down to the runway in 3D view, it seems to get confused about altitude. Maybe it's an issue with the Mode-S data, but it seems to try and jump from MSL to AGL, and sometimes seems to think it's airborne again. Other times, it sticks to the runway, but altitude goes to zero (it should always be MSL). I do understand it might just be a data issue with what you're able to get from public Mode-S. Another observation regarding altitude display in 3D: while watching a flight into KRNO, which is at 4415', the short approach showed the airport perspective as if it were at sea level. Mode S reported 6400' or about 1000' AGL. Many thanks.
Crash crash crash. It's now worthless.
Excellent update
Great display. Amaze your friends. See what planes are overhead.
Amazing app, with Every update it make it even better. Keep up great work developers! Definitely worth buying!
Lots of fun to see what's above you.
Just downloaded this app yesterday and it was sweet. Now an update has made this app totally-tubular!
Love it, great fun, and usefull too, when tracking somebody that needs be picked up at an airport!
There's a flight called ADB1306, flying right now over Bulgaria. It is an Antonov An-225 Myria. It would be amazing to see one model graphic to this plane.
