The Night Sky is a magical new app that enables you to identify the stars, planets, galaxies, constellations and even satellites you can see above.   I have greatly enjoyed this app in many locations. On the beach, in the field and by campfires in wooded areas. It is great fun to use with a child, or another adult curious about the constellations. Would like it to respond more quickly but suspect my old iPad is the issue.

  This app is fantastic, I am just a little disappointed that I have to purchase the Santa Tracker again this year. The app keeps the kids (ages 2, 4, 6, 8, and 9) engaged and we are all learning at the same time. The Santa Tracker kept all of us (including grandparents) entertained last year. I will buy it this year.

  Amazes me on the accuracy. Went to the beach to see the blue moon. Couldn't find where it was rising by naked eye. Used the app and found it under the horizon and 1 minute later was able to catch some amazing pics of the moonrise!

  You have to pay for add-ons AND even though I paid for the Santa tracker last year, apparently I have to pay for it again each year.

  1) Every time I open the app, I have to turn off the satellite mode just to de-clutter. 2) Then I have to go to settings and fix my location, because it doesn't remember where I'm at (and I don't want to have to wave my phone in circle 8s until it eventually figures out where I'm at). 3) Wish star information included the meaning of the star's name in English.

  This is the best way to learn the constellations that I've ever used! It tracks sattelites as well. A must have for amateur astronomers. The compass takes a while to get oriented sometimes and i wish they would take out the sound effects and just let me play my own music, but what the app does well makes it good enough for a five-star rating. But seriously guys, take out the sound effects or let me turn them off. If I'm out looking at the stars there's already outside noises going on, I don't need some hokey wind noises cutting out my music. Plus, they don't really add anything to the experience. Otherwise, great app!

  This is a great app! We have enjoyed identifying stars and satellites using this app. One night we were able to track the Space Station while it passed right over us. We would not have known what it was without this. Worth the purchase!

  Update: Now they don't even respond to emails. Why is it mid-Jan., but they're STILL showing the "Night sky for NOVEMBER??? My original revue is below. The reason I've downgraded this from 4 stars to 2 is that ever since they introduced the Night Sky 2, & Night Sky Community, the RSS feed has been completely neglected. It's Dec. 31st, & they're still showing the Night Sky in NOVEMBER!!! Disgraceful!! Original Revue: A little tricky if there's too much ambient light, but very accurate. I use it with a small hand held planet finder & my telescope. Have been fascinated by the night sky since I was a teenager. This is one of the most fun apps I own. A MUST buy for this is the information pack.

  I am not happy with the way it is implemented. Names of constellation fade out to fast and even if I keep my iPhone/iPad in a stable/fixed position the sky is moving. Sometimes it does not match the actual sky.

  I really just wanted Google Sky Map, but The Night Sky will have to do. I don't know why the designers thought that loud cork-popping sound effect when the app is opened was necessary or appropriate, or why the nag popups every time the app is opened was a good idea. The interface is cluttered with cryptic icons and unnecessary and unwanted "features". It does show me what objects are in the sky behind my ipad right now, so it gets two stars for being functional.

  Worst of all the astronomy apps. This app has a fraction of the features of most other astronomy apps, and when you are using it you get ZERO information on anything in the sky unless you pay four times the purchase price just for an "information pack". Also, this app has been priced this way for almost two years, it is not on a limited time sale. Very deceptive by this publisher, who just wants everyone to think the app is "magical".

  Love this app. It is awesome to know what is up in the sky even if it is cloudy and can't be seen by the naked eye. Also awesome when you see a star, planet and constellation and it is named in the app. Definitely recommend this if you love star gazing.

  This app no longer works with the iPhone 4S. To look east/west I have to lay it down on its side and to look south the phone must be upside down.

  We have a awesome time using this app at night, at anytime during the year. My children & I use this for all kinds of information. We tried other apps, but none of them were true time or as accurate as this. My friends also asked me about where I got this because we had so much fun using it. I think you should try it if you haven't it's a lot of fun.

  Very accurate with identifying stars, planets, and satellites. Favorite 2 features: -The screen changes to red for night vision and yet is easy to see. -Zoom in to the sky on the app and more stars appear. Here in Texas, this app shows almost all the stars that we see at the house. When we stay close to the city, obviously you can't see as many stars in the sky as the app shows. Very good with tracking/showing constellations.

  Great app! I love looking at the stars in the sky on a clear night, trying to identify constellations and planets alike. This app is a really handy tool to help me do just that. Moreover, I had no idea that Uranus and Neptune were hiding in plain sight (sort of!) before I acquired this app for my iPhone. It's that great!
