Here's what I like about Textilus. It's a pretty long list. It's a real word processor. It spell checks. It allows you to place the insertion point between letters within a word. It applies basic formatting. It works. It works beautifully with my Logitech Keyboard Cover. It speaks .rtf as its basic format and can interchange with MS Word, Libre Office, and Pages. It works with Dropbox. The latest update gives straightforward Dropbox navigation. It syncs with Scrivener on my iMac giving the ability to work on individual Scrivener elements and have them stay in sync with the master document. Together, Textilus and Scrivener make a fabulous tool for writing articles, essays, books any kind of document with multiple sections. Textilus keeps documents on board so they can be edited even if you don't have an internet connection. The somewhat oddly named "Local Dropbox" keeps a synced copies of the Dropbox documents you are actually working on so they can also be edited when you are offline. In addition, it exports in the formats writers need today including text and markup. It emails. The "sepia mode" is easy on the eyes. And, well, it just works, at least for me.
App is very useful with the ipad! I love being able to do my work on my ipad and easily convert it to microword soft
Found an issue with fonts. If you create an RTF document with another editor like MS Word that contains headings in blue Helvetica bold, for example, and the text below the headings is in a different font like black courier regular, in Textilus all the text in the document will assume the font of the headings, so all the text that was in black courier regular before will now be in blue Helvetica bold, like the headings that precede it. It appears that Textilus is missing when a font change occurs in the document. I consider this glitch a relatively minor issue in comparison to the other powerful features the app has, so I still rate it as 5 stars. This is just feedback for the developer. Update: still testing, but I'm loving it so far. Looks and functions great. This is a serious app for doing real productive work on my iPad mini. Five stars! Okay, I fumbled long enough with the user interface and finally figured out how to move a document to a folder. It works but it's a little non-intuitive. When things work in their own special ways compared to other systems, you create a learning curve for your product. As long as you don't mind spending some time figuring it out, it works well. I give it 5 stars now. I've noticed that Textilus doesn't recognize Dropbox folders with a name that contains an extension, like 'Foldername.Scriv'. The Dropbox App for iPad does. It would be great if you guys could fix that. Thanks ____________________________________________ I read through the help information; seems written to be cute rather than straightforward, clear and precise. I still can't figure out how to move a document from My Documents to a folder I created. The instructions talk about moving a document on top of another and then to a folder which doesn't even make sense to me. Anyway, I tried following the instructions, pressed 'Edit', and tried moving a jiggling document icon to a folder, but everything on the screen moves (including the folder) rather than just the document I selected to move, so now what do I do? Help me move a document to a folder and I'll give it 5 stars, because inside a document things seem to work well.
Easy to use with a big bag of extras, conversion, email, security options and backup. My request is a send to Box, not just Dropbox.
keep going .....
Seriously great app! I love it, it has so many options and abilities. They are great with updates, not that I've ever even seen any bugs but they are constantly updating... it's NOT one of those apps where the developers disappear on you the second you pay and from what other reviewers say, they are quick to get back to you if you need help or have questions... Ive never had the need to contact them myself though. This is the only 5 star review I've ever given any app. ***One thing I would like to see in an update, is the ability to upload our own picture for the covers of folders.*** I was going to delete that last part above (about folder customization), since they've added that feature in the last update, but Im leaving it so everyone can see that they DO actually listen to our requests... Thanks guys!
I've been a user for almost a year. This app is POWERFUL. Syncs great with Dropbox. If you are a Scrivener user, this is a must-have app. Tried others and nothing comes close. My only ding would be that I would like to see a better user's manual...but that's not a big deal to me. App is constantly being updated, so that's a huge plus. 3.0 update is great.

All I can say is WOW. I only wish that there were more stars to give this app!!!
Wow! Fantastic 3.0 update! I like the useful features like the statistics and PDF preview and export. It improves with every update! Keep up the good work!
Looked at several word processing apps and have found only one other that can compete with Textilus. Textilus does everything you need a word processor to do and is highly compatible with many other word processors. Only one issue keeps it from being unstoppable. When I create a text style such as italic and then save my document, the italics are gone when I open the document again. Not cool. Also, my italic button is graded out and not accessible. The only way for me to apply italics is by pressing on the screen and getting the pop up bar. Again, though, the italics applied don't stay upon repending document. I bought this program because it is the best. Fix this so I can continue to recommend.

Feels just like Im using Word on a regular computer. But probably could use more features, such as the ability to write an outline or something in bullet format.
It improves with every upgrade! Keep up the good work! I like the useful features like the statistics and PDF preview and export.
This program runs circles around Pages. Has many features and functions you can not do in any other program.
Need Google Drive!!!
Great app and I use it to work mobile with Scrivener. I just wish it had the ability to insert comments. It let’s you view comments, but you can’t insert them or add them. That would make this a true collaborating app worth 5 stars. That being said, it’s clean, has a better key board than anything else out there and let’s you edit RTF. Great work. It also syncs flawlessly with Dropbox auto syncing with my Scrivener program. Thank you!
This app truly is a word processor. It does practically everything Word does and is compatible with other apps like Dropbox. I absolutely love this app. It's worth every penny. But I have one criticism. Ever since the last update, there has been a one second delay with every command. It is very annoying. Please fix this.
Now that I've upgraded to the full version of this app I can add images to documents. It is so much more useful for documenting and producing teaching materials. Terrific.

I have given up thinking that there are any good Microsoft Word-compatible apps for the iPad. I purchased Textilus after reading some favorable reviews. However, my experience is not all that favorable. For instance, I have a 13-page paper with 135 questions that must be answered for a Masters-level course. I worked on it at home on my desktop in MS Word 2003, saved it, e-mailed it to myself, then later opened the e-mail attachment and do an "Open In" for Textilus. Textilus turned the 13-page paper into a 275-page paper, with huge gaps in text and formatting. This is not the first time it has happened. Also, when I have created the document in Textilus, save it and export in .pdf format to my Printer Pro to print, even the .pdf is in a very different format from what I saved. Therefore, I find Textilus virtually a useless word processor. I need something that, whether I create the document in the app or open a document and edit it in the app, that will remain in the same formatting for future use and/or printing. I must keep looking. It's amazing how much money you can throw away trying to find a good app.
The new version still not working right with Arabic Storing a document then opening it again will show the doc from left to right not right to left.
Apps like this are making me consider moving back off ipad and onto computers. Its so challeging dealing with overseas devs who don't respond to support messages so you have to argue with them on the review pages, sigh .... No real time word count. Writers who get paid by the word ... this app you have to stop writing. ...wait ... wait .... wait.... wait then collect the count and then either unwrite becauase you wrote too many words or write more. No way to work with multiple docs. expect a dozen steps to work with 2 documents. copy text then .... manually close app ... then manually save (yes its required to manually save) then sift through a pile of documents all named untitled 1-999, open that doc, then the app "forgets" last place viewed, so read through 100 pages in the doc, and paste your snippet, then ... manually close, manually choose save (?!!) then again sort through untilted 1-99, open that old document ... then the app forgot the place "again" so scroll manually through 100 pages and thats ONE cut and paste. Why not: real time word count Why not: copy then "send to" document of choice ???? Why not: place saving??? Why not: swipe between last 10 documents opened??? Errors ... STILL the app has a bug to count a single word so you have to then manually type a word BEHIND the sentences then wait ... wait ... wait .... and then it will resume the word count. STILL turns spell check "off" when changing special characters. Still devs wont simpy reply to support emails which creaates frustrations for us. 5 years into these "applets" I'm ready to return to a real word processor soon.
I like the concept of a simple note taking tool. That said, the application is still broken. When you "center" text, save and then reopen the document, now everything is centered, not just the original selection. i'm running version 2.0.6 (v23).
App links to Dropbox for importing but it does NOT export to or synch with Dropbox. Neither the Auto Sync feature nor manual export to Dropbox folders work. That makes this great looking app useless to me.
If you're buying this to work with Scrivener - Scrivener 2.0 (Mac only - not currently Windows) has the ability to sync with an outside folder as txt or rtf. This is the feature this programs claims it makes use of to read scrivener documents. It doesn't actually read .scriv If you want the Mac to Dropbox sync feature, I'd recommend using Notebooks, personally. As a writing program itself, this ones nicely designed with some decent features.
This editor does not open ODT files, description is false.
It's starting to crash, since the last update.please fix,
Bait and switch. Why are they even marketing it as supporting when something as basic as tables aren't supported?
Version 2.0.3, Dec 2013 I don't know what's happened to the recent upgrade. It has been a while since I've used this app, but now when I open a file in Dropbox and edit, there's no way I can get it to save back to Dropbox in the same folder. I've fiddled quite some time with it but working with Dropbox is very frustrating now.
I bought this app to write all my college notes and project and one day it just crashed and wouldn't open anymore so I re-downloaded it and re-wrote my notes and projects and when I updated it, it deleted EVERYTHING. Never using this again.
Customer Support is awful. I emailed them 5 times and got no response.
Waste of money and time for me. All of the Word Documents I imported with Dropbox ALL gave a warning about losing original formatting. They were all jacked up. Description says that it works with iCloud. It wouldn't. How do I get my money back??!!
Spending a lot of time writing, I had been looking for an application like this, and I was excited to give it a try. So I forked over the six bucks and prayed it was everything it said it was. I have to say that it's promising, except for one huge problem, as far as I am concerned. Being a novelist, I need my formatting decisions to remain intact when opening and closing a document. If this doesn't happen, then frankly, the app isn't pretty much worthless. The first line must be indented, and my lines must be double-spaced. These formatting options are not maintained, either when I import an already formatted document from Dropbox, or when I am creating one. Once you save the document and then reopen it, this formatting is lost. The first line indent is gone from each paragraph, and the lines are single-spaced. It's ridiculous. These features are integral to my writing. And what is so difficult about getting this right? How many other people have had this problem? And have you found a way to resolve this? Thank you.
App will not permit restrictions on its access to one's Dropbox files. So if you want it to use just one folder or file it shuts down. Who in their right mind wants to give this app access to every part of one's Dropbox files? And when you deny it all inclusive access it shuts down the premium version you just bought and wants you to pay another $5.99. What gives with that?
I downloaded the trial version for my iPad and found it to be a pretty nice word processor. It meshed flawlessly with IOS 7. When I had exhausted the trial version, I purchased the full version and have been even more pleased. My documents are easily transferred between my ipad and desktop computer via iTunes. When I upgraded to the full version, I emailed Knowtilus about how to transfer my documents to the full version and got prompt clear instructions on how to do that via iTunes file sharing. Helpful, knowledgable support staff are clearly an added plus for this intuitive, fully functional, easy to use word processor. So far, I find nothing lacking.
This is the best word processor app available and believe me I've looked at them all! I took a chance and bought this one and was pleasantly surprised! Kudos to the developers!
Superscript, subscript, you name it. rtf, ping, txt, pdf, all supported. Keep up the good work.
One of the great things about this program is the keyboard. The have added an extra row of keys that really enhance its use in entering and editing information. It has a lot of import and export options to make it easy to work with external files and it has good rtf support. Dale
I am committed to Dropbox. I have quick office, but editing a document in Word is for some reason awful; there is a terrible lag as you typed, especially in using the backspace. So I tried Pages. But Pages can't be linked to Dropbox, so I tried again. Textilus is perfect. As an editor it's clean, responsive, and has some really nifty features. And it works beautifully with Dropbox.
Seriously great app! I love it, it has so many options and abilities. It's huge!!!really helpful and professional in a scientific way...it got developed over and over and over again....really impressive, keep up the good work.
Have not been able to open it since IOS 7.0.2 Loading IOS 7.0.3 has not solved the problem. All other apps are working fine!
This app hasn't changed much for a long time. Some of the same O' problems it had when I first bought it are still here. It seems that the developer cares more about adding new features that are pretty useless, rather than fixing the problem it already had. For example: Every time I open a document, it automatically goes to the the middle or to the end of the document. It still doesn't let you safe any changed done on a document as a new document, rather than saving the changes to the original document. Just in case you wanted to save the original and add a new version. An same o' problem. I often copy and paste from one document to another, doing this with app is pain in the you know what. You have to exit the document go to the other, copy what you want, go back to the first document, then paste. Of course, but before you paste, you have to find the spot you left off. There is not way to have more than document open at the same time. Another same o' problem. There's no Textilus app for the iPhone, therefore you don't have the ability of synching documents with all you devices. Another some o' problem. While you are typing, if you misspell a word and the app doesn't automatically corrected it, it doesn't let you know that you misspelled a word. There's no change of color or a line under the word or any other indication that the word was misspelled. You have to go to the tool bar, press settings, and then manually make the app spell check the document. Them all the misspelled words are revealed. Yup you guessed it, another same o' problem. They had fixed a problem with viewing documents in full screen mode. Once you exit the full screen more the top of the document hides under the top of the screen. The problem is back to hunt the developer once more. I'm sure it'll be a long time before it's fixed, if ever.
I imported a MS Word document containing graphic images. Got an error message that it doesn't support some graphics. Other apps I use these same graphics work just fine. Yet another wasted investment of my time and a few bucks. This app will go in the trash.
I got this to use on iPad and iPhone, hoping it would be really simple and intuitive as I am so used to using Word, but quite frankly I didn't find it that way. The "instruction" sheet on there is quite horrible and confusing and I didn't even find creating a document to be that easy, or linking it to the cloud either. I tried Pages at the same time which coats a little more, but it is much easier for me to use as I am completely familiar with the way to use an iPad and the iCloud and it works see least, ao I am going to stick to that one. This one is just clunky in comparison.
I needed to edit a Word document and really didn't want to have to fire up my computer. This app meets the bill! The Pros: intuitive user interface, easy to read instructions, quick sync to Dropbox. The Cons: I couldn't figure out how to get my font size to match my original document. It said Helvetica 4 as my font size (huh?). Even with trifocals I couldn't read print that tiny and in order to match fonts, it would only let me reduce the size to 9pt. Fr a first time use it is great! Plan to use this me some more!
I was looking for an editor that would format a subscript letter. Description said it would, but it does not.
I'm a scrivener user and I bought this so I could start working from an iPad. The integration (via manual external Dropbox export) is so weak I'm not able to use it. This could be much more smooth, and it should work with other services like google drive.
I really wanna like this app. I just downloaded it the other day (10/1/13) and have been using it heavily for work as well as personal note taking, etc. During the day, I'm working on several different documents at once and have to switch back and forth every 15-20 minutes or so between 3 different folders containing multiple documents (of barely 3 pages each). When I make formatting changes to documents sometimes the app just crashes. For example. I wanted to copy and paste some text from one document to another. It was only a short paragraph, but when I highlighted the text and tapped copy, the app crashed every single time (even after closing the app out and hard-resetting my entire device). The only way it would let me copy was one line at a time. In another instance, I wanted to highlight certain header lines over an unordered bulleted list in yellow. It worked while I was in the document, but if I closed it, went on to something else, and then came back and reopened the document, *everything* in the document was highlighted in yellow and it wouldn't let me remove the highlighting from the bulleted lists unless I selected them line by line!!!! That's like waaaaaay too much trouble. Thus far, I haven't been successful in finding a support link that actually works. The one in iTunes never connected and when I tried searching in Google, I could only get review pages, never the actual website for the application. If someone out there knows what it is please post it on the iTunes page under this app so I can find it. I like this app but I am so frustrated with it right now.
I really like this app! But ever since I got the new apple update it won't open and I can fin don't her app to replace this one! Please fix! I can't get the app support, it won't let me open it, or I would have done that instead of this. I have tried to get around this but all pursuits have failed me!
I started using this app right away. Everything was intuitive (well... you may have to read directions for all the buttons on the bottom, but it's mostly intuitive). The way you are able to organize folders and integrate with Dropbox makes it worth every penny.
Every time try to retrieve my documents through the app the program blacks out my Ipad. Not worth the money.
Great app, use it all the time for college, I only wish there was an iPhone version for it too. :/
I exported my manuscript from Dropbox. It came up with 6 Times Roman font and no paragraph indents. I could barely read it. I did a select all to increase font size. It froze. Had to select a few paragraphs at a time to increase font size. It took forever to get through 200 pages. I worked on the manuscript, added paragraph indents, saved it as word (RTF) and exported it to Dropbox. The font had changed and no paragraph intents. Useless.
I have tried importing files from WORD and they either fail to import or when they do they are in some weird format. For example, tables completely disappear leaving only the words in an unorganized way. Waste of money!
Going back to Notability...where I NEVER lost a file or folder. Notability has deleted too many of my files to ever trust them again. These terrible things happened after updates so do updates at your own risk. To my dismay, I'm having to copy/paste ever file and folder I ever made with Textilus over to Notability. This is going to take forever....but I can't afford to lose hours and hours of my work with every Textilus update. My ongoing reviews are below. (What's with Textilus now showing only a few (12?) reviews.... something is very wrong, must be too many bad reviews for them to show? Now for my updated review, although no one can see it... YIKES!!! Since the update yesterday, now every document I open is BLACK....so have I lost all the information on these files? I've only opened 2 of them because I don't want to lose everything...all my files and folders. This is the worst 'update' yet...it's normal for Textilus' updates to ruin our files but this one takes the cake! My advice...DO NOT open any files or folders IF you did the most recent UPDATE! I have just changed the background color on one of those BLACK files to white....there is NO information there and it shows there is only one page (which is blank). I have found several files that now show no content whereas before the update they had pages and pages of content. I worked very hard putting the information, links, etc, into these files and now they're all gone. Not all of my files are gone but several are and I'm afraid to open the rest to maybe find out they're gone too. I'm going to transfer all the content I can salvage over to Notability for safekeeping. I'm going back to NOTABILITY! At least I never lost hours of work there. Since I paid for Textilus I will keep it for non-essential stuff, silly stupid stuff, but never again for vital information that takes me hours to input. This had made me sick. 28 Aug 13 - Buggy....now when I cut a word and paste it...it ends up at the top left of the page and the line I took it from is split...very strange bug. (So I'm just typing the word...and transferring all documents to Notability) Everything below represents reviews I did before the last couple of updates. I rarely come back to lower a rating, but this App started off really nice, and each update is ruining it. It's become quite a disappointment. Today (July 23) I found every line in one document of 83 pages "Centered"....when I do a 'select all' to reset the lines to the Left margin, it just spins and spins....solving nothing. I'm going to have to leave it that way (all lines centered) because I don't have time to select a little at a time to correct it, knowing it just may happen again for no known reason. This is awful. The Updates are hurting my documents. After each update, my files/documents lose their 'look' so now what I see are a bunch of files with white covers with text and a pen laying across it, instead of the various colors I gave these files. And speaking of centering, the "Center" option doesn't hold for centering text on a line. When I now open my documents the Titles are on the far right, not centered. It's a hassle to have to constantly repair these. (This is a different bug than the one in the first paragraph.) So far I can't find a way to make a default Font size or style for my documents. The option is there to create different Styles of documents, but these don't work. I can choose a 12pt Font with blue paper, but the next time I choose that Style, it goes back to whatever it was to begin with, which wasn't the Style I created. And...there's no way to get the text to stay at a 12 point font. You have to just type and then keep highlighting your text and keep changing the font size. This is all frustrating and I've given up trying to create a default Font or Style. I'm so used to Textilus crashing it's just become a habit to keep reopening it. It's nice to have a large color selection for the pages, but 90% of them are much to dark to use. If you want to use a dark font on a light paper so it can be seen, there are only about two color choices that will work, tan and blue. I like Textilus, I just wish it would work right. (Edit: Not using it any more...cannot trust it to keep safe my vital information that I worked so hard to input.) I've used enough of these 'writing' Apps now to think it's simply not possible to make a good trustworthy one. I'm going back to Notability, at least I never 'lost' content there.
Changed text formatting and lost headers and Word's Track Changes in an RTF document I opened from Dropbox. Luckily I had the file backed up. Didn't try it with a Word document. Not going to.
Several weeks ago Textilus decided to erase a valuable file and systematically eradicate each of the several backups. I basically stopped using the app. Then I go in recently to look at an old file and find it is now erased! I'm afraid to open any others, but I at least I copied everything to my computer after the first incident. As far as I'm concerned, this app cannot be trusted whatsoever with such a dangerous bug persisting for over a month.
Have used the app for several months and loved it until this morning when I tried to close a document and it wouldn't close. After ten minutes I gave up. Now I can't get rid of the old document.
Really love the app, but it is missing something. If you keep up the good work I'm sure it will become perfect
I just bought this a couple days ago and love it so far. The only thing I wish it had was better editing capabilities like word. For instance it would be great if you could write side motes to certain sections of the paper you are reading!
overall good app, however, there needs to be more effort to smoothly open ms word docs in this app with more compatibility.
It really works!
I use Textilus in conjugation with Scrivener and having a really versatile rich text editor is great. Plus with Dropbox it syncs really nicely with it. EXCEPT that it erases all comments and footnotes/endnotes. I wish I had been warned about that ahead of time, though was able to get all those back with some Dropbox restores. However, I have sent a few customer support emails concerning the app and never had any replies back. That isn't great.
