    God forbid something goes bad when you are away. No remote reboot. A trip abroad? You may watch your tv ... Or not. Overall a reasonable idea. Sloooooow to react to every command. The default setting is the lowest quality SQ. No matter how much I tried to set it to auto. I have no TV set and watch ( little ) tv on my computers.

  • iPad App ver 3.2 Works Great

    After installing the iPad App ver 3.2, the "skinned" remote issues have been fixed and all of the remote functions are working as in ver 2.4.4. I can stream to my Apple TV and watch on my TV in SD or HD mode with no problems. After having been very critical of the developers for their 3.0 and 3.1 drops, IMO, this 3.2 version rocks. Great Job! I am using an iPad 2 with iOS 7.0.4 and connecting to a Slingbox PRO HD device.

    I have been messing with Slingbox for nearly two years. It is better now with the most recent upgrade. Works quite well if you have high speed internet on both ends. Generally drives me nuts on the road in hotels and forget it in most international locations. I usually am working with an iPad and everything seems to be in slow motion when using the virtual remote or the other controls. I plan to continue being a user and hope that improvements will come soon.

    For $14.99 (for just the iPad app! Not including the iPhone app!), this app could be a heck of a lot better. Additionally, I have found that it does not save settings — for instance, you can configure the app to use the “High Quality” or the “Auto" setting by default over WiFi - it will always automatically default to Standard Quality. That’s just simply not acceptable.

    Was unable to connect and kept getting error message stating Slingplayer could not connect to the Slingbox. After I removed the app from the iPad and reinstalled, I was able to connect. Unclear what the issue was initially, but the SlingPlayer appears to work just fine now.

    This used to be a very good app. That is until they upgraded it. Now all it does is skip, pause, and bomb out. I am writing this in HOPE that someone at Slingbox gets this app fixed.     I bought Slingplayer 3.1 in December. It worked for a day and wouldn't work at all when I left the state. Keeps saying make sure iPad and Slingbox are connected to the internet which they are. Complete waste of money. Reset multiple times and still says it won't connect. So many complaints and there is still no update to fix connectivity bug. Updated to 3.2 and still won't connect on iPad. Do not purchase this app.

    Despite having a big pipe at both ends, the removal of the "HQ" button for video quality has made it impossible to watch in anything but SQ. Selecting "AUTO" doesn't do anything. In fact, there is no discernible difference now between "SQ" and "AUTO," meaning they removed meaningful video quality selection in favor of connectivity (presumably). I can't even read the text on the channel guide when connecting remotely. APP EFFECTIVELY BROKEN.

    No update no change in performance. Do not buy until it's fixed. Also the online sling player from the slingbox.com site s_cks too! Update Info: Watching some hockey on the NHL web site. Perfect picture on tv thanks to iPad to Apple TV. I can surf the web at the same time too. Slingbox needs to get there act together. I could never do this with slingbox! Where's the update we are all waiting for. Update: Finally found a way to mirror with ipad air to Apple TV. Make sure all apps are closed. Set to mirror before starting sling app. This works most of the time. Still have lots of buffering and pauses. Hope to see a fix soon. Absolutely love this app when it's working, so be patient. ..."........, You didn't do it again! Using new sling 500 and new iPad air. New top of the line Asus router and still will not mirror to Apple TV. I'm a grand deep in this and it still s_cks! Come on and get a working update out, PLEASE! Second review... After the latest update! Very disappointed again. iPad app will not handle any variation in bandwidth. Hangs or audio only as soon as the bandwidth drops even a little bit. I watch apple tv all the time with no problem at all. Maybe you should hire a couple of techs from apple to do your next upgrade, they seem to have it down pat! I live out of the USA so having this app is about my only option to get news and sports. It would be the greatest app ever if only it was more reliable. (last review) Will not air play with iPad 1 and not well with the newer iPads. Very little control of settings. Streaming comes and goes. It works but needs a lot of updating.

    Update below - Great product but so far the ipad ap is not so great. Very, very delayed reaction time, the remote cannot understand 3 digit channel commands so had a hard time inputting the correct channel, the Menu button on the remote is grayed out so can't use that for some reason. Jan 26, 2014 - Since Sling player update, this is not been working at all just like the other users. When I use my sign in, it says I'm not connected to the Internet. When I use my roommates, it says it's not compatible with my device. Been waiting for a fix since December.

    I installed the mobile app on my Galaxy Note 3 and it worked perfectly and I installed this app on my Ipad 3 and after I sign in and select my Slingbox it closes. I have tried reinstalling and no luck. $15 down the drain.

    Since this version, 3.1, has been out a month or so, something has happened on the server end. All of a sudden it crashes on my iPad 2 and on my iPad Mini when trying to connect. Reinstalling, doesn’t help. Fix this soon or a refund I’ll be calling for a refund!! Also, support is weak. I was told it’s a known bug, and that engineering MIGHT have a fix soon, even though this problem started well after the release. They had no solution but escalate & wait.

    Tried to reinstall. Says it recognizes my Slingbox but when I hit continue to complete reinstall it just crashes back to my ipad home screen. The same crash occurred before trying reinstall when I hit 'Watch'. Slingbox forum shows others with same issue. Tech support no help. Can not recommend Slingbox any more. Wish someone else had same functions.

    App is awesome... In theory. You have to sign in and reconfigure every time you close the app. Video feed is extremely jumpy, when it works fine on a computer. Airplay is poor. You can not leave the app or even lock the screen, while streaming. Many other airplay capable apps have this feature. Please add this function and increase stability. 15 dollars is a lot for a POS app.

    Just bought the SlingPlayer app this morning. Able to log in, selected a TV channel from the guide, nothing showed up on the iPad screen. Very sad that it did not work. Developer, please fix the app now. We paid a steep price for nothing so far. I believe you can fix it. Apple store should put some pressure on these guys since you get some of the profits from the app. So many people are very upset about this non functioning SlingPlayer app. Thank you.

    No ROKU streaming, the description said ROKU support when i purchased it - four days later that line is missing from the description. Between the device and the apps - i've spent $400 - do not waste your money - descriptions and promises are misleading - and when you've spent the money you are own your own. to make it worse, the customer support folks will talk you into circles without ever solving the problem then they'll ask you to call again if you can think of anything you may be doing wrong. unbelievable.

    I now have to put in my email and password every time I want to use the app. C’mon, Sling, I paid $30 for the iPad app, $30 for the iPhone app, and $300 for each of my three Slingboxes… software that costs this much and doesn’t work properly should be fixed immediately.

    This app will buffer every 5 seconds and makes it unwatchable. My networks speeds are fine and when I use a browser on my laptop there is no problem. It only is a problem on the Slingplayer app. Do not buy!

    I have directv and the remote on the app works as if I'm at home doing the real thing! Now... If you have a bootleg set top box that isn't in the slingbox's list of receiver manufacturers , then you're screwed. BUT! There is a forum where you can manually install a custom remote that enables your Set top box ( satellite or cable box ) to work. I have a set top box called Nano Sat premium that I use on the side and it wasn't on the list that sling box provides. I simply went to the sling box forum and searched my bootleg satellite receiver. I found what I was looking for and simply installed the remote control for that box. And BOOM! I was ready to enjoy! People just need to read and do homework before they make negative reviews. I LOVE THIS APP. Only bad thing is that you gotta pay for the iPad and iPhone app separately. Other than that, it's great! Enjoy!

    I'm using this app on an iPad Air, with a Slingbox 350 connected to a Sky+ box in the UK, watching from the US. Both connections are around 5mbps download speed, not sure what the upload speed is (slower, obviously). Works fine without stuttering on standard quality. Keeps stalling for half a second or more on high quality - which makes it unwatchable. The Auto mode seems to keep trying at high quality and not switch down to standard. I'd give it more stars if it worked properly on high quality. Not having any problems at all with the remote for the Sky+ box. Update:Downgraded to 2* now I've found it doesn't support AirPlay

    What happened to AirPlay? Video doesn't show when using AirPlay for Apple TV, I only hear sound. This used to work now it doesn't, please fix.

    This app is absolutely horrendous. You have to re-login all the time to use it. Watching a channel is ridiculous and is now a multi-step process. 1st hit guide. Then select Favorites. Then select your channel. Then hit watch. Wait. Then hit Live TV to view full screen. Come on, this is RIDICULOUS !!! I'm pretty sure in the old app you could just hit Favorites, and select your channel. Done. There are bugs upon bugs in this program. Favorites don't save correctly. Channels don't show up in your guide or Favorites unless you toggle the HD only switch off and on. I can go on. It's apparent that there is no QA department at this company or a very poor one if at all. My wife made me give her iPad 1 back so she could have a usable Sling Player. I either want my money back or a way to downgrade to the older version.

    Update Info: Watching some hockey on the NHL web site. Perfect picture on tv thanks to iPad to Apple TV. I can surf the web at the same time too. Slingbox needs to get there act together. I could never do this with slingbox! Where's the update we are all waiting for. Update: Finally found a way to mirror with ipad air to Apple TV. Make sure all apps are closed. Set to mirror before starting sling app. This works most of the time. Still have lots of buffering and pauses. Hope to see a fix soon. Absolutely love this app when it's working, so be patient. ..."........, You didn't do it again! Using new sling 500 and new iPad air. New top of the line Asus router and still will not mirror to Apple TV. I'm a grand deep in this and it still s_cks! Come on and get a working update out, PLEASE! Second review... After the latest update! Very disappointed again. iPad app will not handle any variation in bandwidth. Hangs or audio only as soon as the bandwidth drops even a little bit. I watch apple tv all the time with no problem at all. Maybe you should hire a couple of techs from apple to do your next upgrade, they seem to have it down pat! I live out of the USA so having this app is about my only option to get news and sports. It would be the greatest app ever if only it was more reliable. (last review) Will not air play with iPad 1 and not well with the newer iPads. Very little control of settings. Streaming comes and goes. It works but needs a lot of updating.

    The latest version has some very annoying quirks. First, it takes an eternity to change channels, the software is very unresponsive, and I'm using it on my home net, not from another location. Second, it constantly requires that I log in...what's the point in such tight security...it just a tv steam, not my bank accounts. Overall, the speed and the log in issues make it practically unusable. Entertainment software should not get in the way so maddeningly...it sort of defeats the purpose.

    I have the IPad version and the IPhone version installed on my IPad. Every time I try and use the IPad version it tells me to "make sure sling box and IPad are connected to same network. The IPhone version has no problems and works just fine. Have deleted and reinstalled several times. Also it used to work, don't know what happened.

  • Worse every update

    I wish I could travel back in time to around a year ago. This app gets worse with every update. Want to stream Hi Quality?.....forget it. I have a super fast wifi home network and horrible Standard Quality is the best I can get. Hi Quality buffers every 5 seconds. Older versions worked great. I could even stream Hi Quality on my old 3G cellular. No more.....this is crap....not even worth using anymore. This app has went down hill fast.....complete fail. This should be a .99 cent app.

    I should have paid attention to all of the negative reviews. This app has poor video and audio quality and I cannot Airplay any video, only audio. The online support is not helpful. I wish I could get my money back.

    After reseting my Pro-HD Slingbox back to factory settings, and setting it up again via the slingbox.com web site, the remote in the iPad app finally worked. I have never setup my Slinbox using the web site until now, before it was always with the Windows desktop app, which has been discontinued. I'm guessing between updates made to the iPad app, the hardware now needs a full factory reset and setting up from the web site in order to function properly with the iPad app.
