How does this app record calls?

Take a look at our screenshots for step by step instructions.

When you're on a call and you want to record it, open TapeACall and press the record button. We will put your call on hold and dial our recording line. As soon as our line answers tap the merge button on your screen to create a 3 way call between your other caller and our recording line.

If you want to record an outgoing call, just press the record button. The app will dial our recording line and will begin recording as soon as our line answers. Once that happens, tap the add call button on your screen, call the person you want to record, then press the merge button when they answer.

Can I download recordings to my computer?

Yes, and we've made it extremely easy to do this. From inside the app you can attach the recording to an email and send it to yourself as an MP3, or you can click the share button and find a short URL that you can type into your computer's browser.

As many as you want! We don't have a limit on the number of recordings you can make.

Are there any additional fees?

We do NOT charge you any additional fees. Please keep in mind that 3-way calling will use your airtime minutes. Also, carriers outside the US may charge for long distance calls, so be sure to check if TapeACall is long distance for you. If it is, you may be able to get around this by adding TapeACall's access number as one of your "Fav" numbers so you can call it without additional airtime usage or carriers fees. If we don't have an access number that is considered local by your carrier, please contact us and we'll try to get one for you!

  This is a life saver at work. I often times have to write two stories a day so schedule face to face interviews can be a challenge. But with tape a call. I can record the interview instantly. This is a must have for journalists working on deadline and need that interview but can't physically be in the interviewee's presence.

  Going through a nasty divorce. I've used this app for months and recorded over 3 hours of calls to help my case. Only drawback is u can hear it beep when u press record. U just have to cough or something to cover the beep sound. Also - the fact u can forward the recording is great.

  I heard that there was a beep during the call, but I can assure there is not. I have tried every combo possible and it does not leave anything at all to alert anyone on either end of the conversation. I use it for lectures and interviews and it is flawless as far I can tell. It's good people I promise.

  This is a very sorry piece of software. Tried several times to record a call and it never hears anything. I have followed the tutorial to the letter. I've pushed merge until my finger is practically merged to the phone and still get nothing. Wasted 10 bucks.

Before I found this app, I tried a bunch of others that didn't work very well, or forced you to keep buying blocks of time. This is by far the best I have tried. The app is dead simple to use, it's easy to download your recordings, and it's worked without a hitch, with great sound quality. If you are in the market for something like this, this is the only app you'll ever need. It's a ridiculously fantastic bargain, as well.

  Nice clear quality on playback. It does not allow you to start recording until you have connected on the call.... then there is a short delay. Would give it 5 stars if you could start recording prior to the other party connecting. Great app. Works great just have to remember to merge calls.

  Just started using this app and it works extremely well. I connect to TAC first, record a date/time header etc, then make the call I need to record. Works very well. I have made several calls already. One improvement I would like is to be able to merge the call while it is ringing and not after answer. Please make this change.

  I'm a freelance writer and I use this all the time to tape phone interviews anywhere from 30-60+ minutes long. I particularly love that I can email myself a download link to use later after the recording is done. There are a couple of issues I have. One is that it sporadically disconnects instead of merges the calls. I can't 100% say this is the app's fault though. The other issue is that I can't sleet the recording without downloading it. Note to developers: please allow this in future versions. I like to email myself the download link so I don't also want the file to automatically download to my phone. Apart from that, happy with the way it works and it's certainly been a big help to me.

  Fantastic, simply-designed app. But out of 3 recordings I've forgotten to hit "Merge Call" (which starts the taping) twice! Adding a pop-up reminder if the app doesn't hear anything for 30 or 60 sec. would help save me from myself.

  Hey screw you apple for not letting me save this reviews because someone picked my nickname. Anyway do not buy this app or use it, it worked at first and has now screwed up two interviews for me. They saved as 1 second long on my phone, and you can't download them anywhere. No web support, either.

  I like this ap but I think that it takes way to long to connect to the server. To much time and conversation is lost during this process when recording a call already in progress. An upgrade here is definitely necessary.

  I've deleted recordings I don't need and they miraculously reappear. On my Sprint iPhone it can take 30 seconds or longer to activate. Other than that, the recordings are super clear. And it is easy to share the files.

  I've been really happy with this ap until the last update. Now every 5 seconds I get an alert from the ap that a call was recorded .... Not kidding it's running through the call list over and over and over and over with notifications. Driving me NUTS.

  Ok. I was VERY excited when I first used this app. I had been looking for something like this for years. I have emailed the support about many issues I am having: constant notifications telling me that I have a new recording when I haven't recorded anything. My "labeling/naming" of calls being erased & having to rename them over and over (finally gave up). I even went into my settings (iPhone4S) and turned off notifications yet still getting them? - I am happy that it records calls well.. But the other things are very annoying and wondering if it is really worth $10 (my time is more valuable)

  This is hands down the best app I have ever bought. Everything works perfectly. It works exactly as advertised, just make sure you merge calls. Calls are clear as a bell, even me though I'm often called a mumbler. Recorded calls are available almost immediately after you hang up. All calls are time and date stamped and shows the duration of the call. You can also label the calls whatever you like and the time information remains available. Again, best app on the market!

  Recording outgoing calls is just absolutely easy and it only took couple tries to get real good recording the incoming calls so I say this is just a great little app probably the downside is that they they get your telephone number and your and they store the recordings on their server but it does provide a way to to turn them into MP3s if you save it to the right software on your on your telephone anyway I love it and I think I just think it's a great app

I did buy TapeACall PRO, and I did follow instructions to the letter. Was calling this place for the 4th time for necessary papers to be sent to me. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

  I keep getting this bill that I shouldn't be getting. I have talk to supervisor after supervisor with them telling me I should not get a bill. The bill is now in collections and is affecting my credit score. I am not paying this bill. Now I have the supervisors on record saying that I should not be getting a bill. I would love for them to try to take me to court. I will have them on record and then they would have to pay court costs lawyer fees and time off of work. Ha ha!

  I'm giving this app 5 stars because it does exactly what it says it will and it does it beautifully. I'm using it to record calls with my landlord. I was worried he would hear a beep or other tone to indicate the call was being recorded but that doesn't happen.

  Just got this and tried it out. There's a high-pitched beep occurring every 15 seconds that's noticeable on both ends of the line. Both of us are using iPhone 5s and it's incredibly annoying.

  Takes some getting used to but it does what it says. A pleasant surprise is that I was able to send the file or link via Drop Box, email, Evernote, etc. You have to give it a few seconds to be ready to merge the call. Also, you can turn off the periodic beeps.

  I purchased this app to record conference calls. The app causes reverberation and echo on the call which is very very noticeable. We had a call with 9 participants. Three of them were on speaker. Make sure that no one is on a speaker phone. We had to hang up and start the call over.

• Painless Way to Record iPhone Calls

  I use this app to take recorded statements over the phone. There is a small learning curve and I recommend everyone using this program to practice, practice, practice. You do not want to hit the wrong button during a phone call and hang up on somebody. But once you learn how to use this program, it does a really good job of recording both sides of the conversation. I highly recommend it.

• TURN OFF CALL WAITING 1st!

  Easy to use and works well—unless you have a call come in at minute 25 of a 62-minute phone interview and it stops recording the moment the call waiting beep goes off. Yeah, that happened to me today. Ramon at TapeACall tried to help, but you can't recover something that was never recorded. I took a star off because of that easily communicated, but not communicated anywhere, mission-critical snafu. Turned off call waiting (Settings: Phone: Call Waiting) and did another hour plus interview later the same day with no problems.
