  It was good when it worked, but we had to keep restarting and each time we lost all progress. Frustrating. My daughter did finally finish Unit 1, then you have to pay for everything else individually. I can see how this would get really expensive too; the first unit only covers a couple of word groups like _an and _at and then you have to buy each extra section. I can easily see how you could spend $20+ on add ons.

  I really like it and it's fun for kids but: First I think it's not fair that if u want to get classroom 49$ version they don't give u credit for units that u already paid for, second I would great if they add more then one player option

• No taking into account money already spent

  We spent about $20 already in this app; with the latest update we have to pay the same as somebody trying it for the first time to get the rest of the units and books. $70 in all? Ouch. 6 year old a little bored with it but 3 year old still loves it and is asking for more. The repetitiveness really did help them both make the connection between words and word parts, word families, etc. We'll see whether we buy any more units or not, though. It's just a little too expensive right now.

  This is one of the better app purchased I've made for my pre-kindergartener. It is fun and engaging and has definitely helped him learn to read in just a couple weeks. I do have a few suggestions for improvement though, which is why I only gave it 4 stars and not 5: 1) There seems to be a bug with the trophy room. Once trophy decorations are selected, some can be changed, others get stuck and do not change or re-select. 2) My son keeps asking, "let me see all the stars I got". He seems to be counting the stars and wants to see his progress. It would be nice if there were a way to see the stars achieved when looking at the trophy room. 3) The trophy room compiles progress across units, but is accessible from within the unit. It seems more logical to access it from the main page rather than within a lesson. 4) We love the white board where he can build a silly story. It would be great if there were an option to add lines like on a paper so he can line the words up in a sentence. And then it would be even better if there were a button that read the sentence to him.

  I purchased Hooked on phonics a few months ago and began reading it with my 5 year old son. Recently they re did the books and games within the app and the results are amazing! My son loves it! He can't wait to read the books every night and he is really reading! I tried other apps and they are no where nearly as good as this one. Highly, highly recommend it!,,

  My 4 year old son knows his phonics, but I was unsure of how to actually teach him to read. This app has done the job. We go through each short lesson together & he's got it! At the end of each lesson, he just sails right through the book. I'm super impressed. We bought a couple books in unit 1 & all of Unit 2 & I think I've spent $6.99. Great value for a program that really works. Very happy!!

  Our 6 year old son is a little behind in reading. We got this app several months ago to help. It works because the lessons are short and focused and he successfully reads a book after each one so he feels the achievement. We have been waiting for more units. Worth the wait! The full program is kind of expensive but it's a ton of lessons and our son won't put it down.

  Not sure how to report a problem but we bought Unit 4 for $3.99 and in the first lesson when it goes to pick a word none of the words show up! Then when you go to read the book it has one book but the app is out loud saying another. I will change my rating to 5stars once the problem is fix. Trying to get this message to pop up to the people that can fix it. Fix it

• Good concept, less content, and some of bugs

  Though the application concept is good, but the content is very less. I bought two units spending $10, but my son got bored with in two days. I feel, value for money is less. Also, in the unit 2, there are bugs. Practice and match words does not display words. It is just displaying people. Story reading in unit-2 still displays unit-1 stories. Working fine after downloading again.

  This is a great Phonics ap! Makes reading fun. We did have issues at first, but the updates have resolved them. I only wish they had more lessons, but I guess we'll have to wait.

• Not Ready for Prime Time

  Very little content is available. In earlier versions of the app, it noted that there were at least 18 units (a fact now hidden by the update showing only 7 total units). They are still stuck at 4 units which my 4 year old daughter blew through in 4 nights. It only has small amount of CVC words. Don't waste your money until there is substantially more content. Even the older rave reviews beg for more content. This app is not being updated fast enough to be a worthwhile investment. At the current pace, the full units will be available in 4-5 years.

  Program worked great when we first downloaded it and purchased the different levels. However now the app is dis functional and gives a message that we can't use it until the purchases have been downloaded. We tried deleting it and re downloading the app, but that did not fix it. :(

  My 5 years was struggling with reading. She knows all the basics things that she needed to know to get into kindergarten, but it's half way through the year and it seemed like she wasn't learning anything!! Hooked on phonics helped her with reading by the second lesson. I highly recommend this to anyone!!!! I am so happy!!!

  I was looking for an app to help me teach my sons to read. I was recommended this by app by a friend. I remember the original program with videos from when I was growing up, so thought I would give it a shot. What a wonderful app! Within just a few minutes my son was reading. While in app purchases are required to continue the program, the prices are reasonable. It's hard to put a price on education!
