Very useful and easy to use, but one very important feature is missing... To bookmark important and common used regulations. Hope to see that in the next release.
I give this app three stars for its clean layout and search feature but it really needs bookmarks, highlighter and print tools to justify five stars and the ten bucks it cost.
This app does just what it is meant to do. It's a nice substitute to lugging the paper book around. However...I think ASA missed the mark a bit. They need to look at what a used FAR/AIM looks like and design around that. Highlighted, circled, marked up, scribbled out, sticky noted, tabbed, book-marked, bent, and warn in. This app is very stale and has zero personality. I'll be loyal to you....I'll even pay more....just give me an experience I can personalize and USE! And, if possible leave my annotations in place even after an update.
I like the app and installed and works well on both the i-pad and i-phone5. The idea of receiving the updates is excellent and is much better than carrying around the thick book. The one feature missing is the ability to highlight and bookmark specific sections. Please add a favorite option.
This is a great quick reference app and I use all the time. However, I would like to be able to highlight in the document to make future references easier. Also, it should include Part 93!
Great app. I agree with others about updates but overall a good app. I would, however, like to be able to highlight a section to email or share with people. As a flight instructor I get asked plenty of regulation questions and it would be nice to be able to email a section to a student.
This app is useful for looking up a reg using the search tool. It could be a great app for students with highlighting, a bit of formatting to indent subsections, and a page to show the changes when it is updated. I find it updates quick enough, but it's hard to know what changed. If they put a bit of work into it I'd recommend it to any of my students, but as of now, not so much.
This app is a great tool for reading/reviewing the FAR/AIM. The search function is very easy to use, but you have to know how something is phrased exactly in the FAR/AIM in order to find it. Unfortunately one does not have the option to bookmark or highlight text within the app. You can copy parts of the text, but it is a pain to do so. Additionally, as the FARs are updated, this app is slow to reflect those changes and updates. Overall, it is a good app, but it would be even better with highlighting and bookmarking options.
Great search function. I love the ability to search for a specific keyword but I was hoping there would be improvements to the app by now. Same interface, no improvements, and there needs to be an update. There has been two aim updates so far this year and these have yet to be incorporated into this app.
Needs updates and it would be nice with a bookmarking, and highlighting tabs
It's a good app with what you need for reference. However, as of now, I would use this for reference use only. Aviation requires in-date info, and until I see an update, this is a reference tool only. ASA is not living up to its name here. Update!!!
Good app. Missing highlighter function! Also 2013 hasn't been updated yet...?!?
This app is very organized and this best FAR/AIM app by far except for its lack of a highlighter function. If a highlighter function was added I would give it 5 stars
Would like the ability to highlight words to enhance study time.
Originally different FARs were missing. Current version has all regs included, and the app works great. Excellent search function!
The app is straightforward and utilitarian with search capability. But as others have said, parts are missing. Moreover, the description calls this the 2013 FARs, while the app indicates that it was current only until August 21, 2012. There is an "update" button, but no updates available. In aviation, such lag is unacceptable. Here's hoping ASA lives up to its name with an update, because it could be a 5-star app.
The tool itself is great as a quick reference tool. The only reason I bought it was because I'm a DER and it beats the hell out of using the FAA Website. In the previous version, Part 25 was there but in this version Part 25 is missing. I'm hoping that this was an erroneous error that will be corrected soon because without Part 25, this app is now useless to me.
No highlighting or bookmarking?? I thought that would be the big tools to have using this with the ipad. Now the only tools you have is the search engine and portability. Cmon you guys, don't torture us!!
I like that I don't have to buy a new version every year! Search function is great, I can live without highlighting
Bookmarks would be a nice feature to have.
Emailed ASA regarding the date of currency. They emailed me back stating that regardless it was current. They said they would fix it, but clearly that was ignored. Never again will I purchase ASA!
I love the fact that I don't have carry around that giant book, but I can not highlight sections, or bookmark pages for easy reference later, when we are searching you need to know the exact phrase in order or else you turn up nothing. The updates on the FAR need to be more often and I need to be able to see what updates have been done in the app. If this is done you guys get five stars and all of my students would be advised to have this as well.
Current through March 2013. Great. Now I have to go back to the 19th century and carry a 7lb book for my check flight. Disappointing.
New update came out, great... They're still expired! "Current through march 15, 2013"
It's okay for your generic, you should remember this type stuff, but I find it missing so many parts. I don't know why, the data isn't that large. Just put the entire Title 14 in there. Now I'm going to have to find another app with the complete FARs and that will be the one I recommend to all my students.
This application does not have the e-book reader usability features that most people expect from such an app. One cannot swipe the screen to move between pages, no way to quickly scroll through and scan content, there is no way to bookmark items, etc. Given that the content of this application is available free from the FAA the value of the $10 being charged for this application should be in the user interface. The ASA paper FAR/AIM is by far the best. Unfortunately the e-book version has no value add over the free PDF available on the FAA web site.
Great app for reference. I use this app as a Helo ATP. 2-things would make it perfect: 1)ability to highlight. 2)ability to flag, favorite or bookmark high use or high value areas to each user. If you are thinking of using this to LEARN the FARs/AIM, get the book version. If you have a basic understanding and need a quick reference, then you will like this app. Fly safe, Cheers!
I used this app all throughout my Initial CFI training. The ability to search is fantastic. There are some minor user interface issues that are annoying (the functionality is somewhat less that what I hoped for), but other than that- this app should be in every pilot's electronic flight bag. The ***FREE*** updates to the app containing current regulations is superb. Almost tempted to not buy the FAR/AIM book next year. Be a little more eco-friendly I guess. Any way you slice it, this app is worth the measly 10 bucks or whatever they are asking whenever you read this review. Buy it.
it does the job and its alot better than caring the big old door stop around with you.
Convenient in that it sorts out the parts and paragraphs that are applicable to the certificate desired, although not 100% accurate. There would have been a real value add if the paragraphs had been indented and therefore much easier to read. Too bad ASA didn't think of that.
This is a very good app. I would echo the other requests for the ability to highlight. It would also be nice if they would indent each sub-part and paragraph as it is in the paper version of the FAR/AIM
Love the convenience of having regs at my finger tips but they really need to add book mark and highlighting to the tool section.
This app is good but without the ability to update and be current it's useless. If you break a FAR you cannot use this as a reference since its currency is good only through Sep. 2011
I don't know why people compain about update, I have compared many parts with book and are the same thing, there are just 2 pictures which don't load, I don't know why it happens. I suggest this application at all, portable, cheaper than books and complete. But I guess would be better own both
Great program but it needs the ability to Save highlighted sections
This app needs to include all of the FARs so that it can be more useful to mechanics. Even while it does lack several of the FARs like; Part 26, 27, 33 ect. it is still by far better than using the web or a book.
Overall, this is a good app. Some features that I would like to see are the ability to highlight and bookmark the text. This alone would turn this app from 3 to 5 stars.
Come on update for retina display. You guys are almost 2 years behind the curve. Add studying features and highlighting.
It looks like it's all here but ASA is too slow in releasing the updates. As if now mine is Aug. 7, 2011. The update button finds none. I emailed them to get info on the prior update which was released when they said. Seems ASA has gotten in over it's head. They should study the potential of tarnishing their company name rather than being "with it" and having a few apps for the iPhone. C'ya ASA. @)(@
There is no warning that this app is OUT OF DATE and completely useless to a pilot... Do not waste your money... Buy the book - it's only a couple bucks more and put it in your flight bag
Current through Apr 2011. FAR AIM 2012 is out already.
shame on you. It says free updates in the description, worthless if not up to date. ! A waste of $10.
This app is great replacement for the paper FAR/AIM. I especially love the feature that allows me to study by certificate. Makes it very easy to study for my written exams. One suggestion for the developers would be to add support for notes, bookmarks and the ability to move to references in regulations (and back again). That would just put some nice finishing touches on an already useful app!
Simple and easy to use. Includes full FAR's and I would highly recommend it. Worth the 10$ for free updates and not carrying around the big book. Bonus that it works for iPhone and iPad.
I use this application rather than my FAR/AIM paper book for reference 99% of the time. I have but one critical thing to say about this app, and that is that it doesn't have any way to annotate, bookmark or otherwise keep track of things that you have recently looked up. If you have ever seen an actual FAR/AIM book that a student or instructor carries around, it is loaded with sticky notes, has underlines, page markers etc. I simply can't quickly find something I was just looking at yesterday unless I do a complete search and find it via the search tool. I hope that in future versions that this app will include some sort of user markup/annotation feature.
No highlighting No bookmarking No updates. Thought the product detail said "free updates". Apparently not so much...
Hi, I am an airframe technician and I am studying to get my powerplant certificate, one of the classes requires me to use the FAR/AIM book I decided to download the app because is made by the same company that sell the book at my school,George T. Baker Aviation, and they are very reliable and I've always use ASA I figured that browsing through the book will be easier which is true but the one problem that I find with this app is that it is missing some part like part 3,13,33,34 and so on I was wondering if you guys were gonna add this in future updates. Thank you, Mr.Nunez
I would give it 5 stars if it has: 1- bookmark. 2- highlight.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! This app is not updated for 2011. $10.00 down the drain. Thanks ASA...This will be the last money you ever receive from this professional pilot.
This app has all the information, but ASA does not update it. What good is $10 for outdated information. Shame on you ASA.
