This application contains a full, unabridged AUDIOBOOK of Emma by Jane Austen. Published in 1815, Emma is a comic novel about the perils of misconstrued romance. The author explores the concerns and difficulties of genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England; she also creates a lively 'comedy of manners' among her characters. Before she began the novel, Austen wrote, "I am going to take a heroine whom no-one but myself will much like. Austen introduces the heroine as "Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich." Emma, however, is also rather spoiled; she greatly overestimates her own matchmaking abilities; and she is blind to the dangers of meddling in other people's lives.
The Traveling Classics Reader provides:
- A crisp, sleek interface for navigating the book and controlling playback
- A delightfully clear and engaging narration of the entire book
- The full text of the novel, which scrolls in sync with the narration for easy reference
- Never loose your place; the reader will keep track of where you are in the book so can resume playback at the click of a button.
The recording used in this application is taken from the LibriVox project. This project has volunteers from around the world record their favorite classic books and then release them for the world to enjoy.
This application contains the full book in one download so that you can listen to the book wherever you are, without the need for an internet connection. Perfect for those long plane trips or commutes on the subway. This does, however, mean that the application is larger than most. So you will have to download it over WiFi or through iTunes on your Mac or PC.

I'm usually over the moon with these audio books, but this one's not good. I wish I would have listened to the other reviews that the reader is bad. She's REALLY bad. No expression, no difference in voices. Not good. And my version somehow has 2 chapters being read at the same time.
The reader is terrible!!!
The reader of this reads too quickly, with little inflection, mispronounces words, and skips pieces of text. The text is either too fast or too slow much of the time so that it is not in sync with the reader - and you need to follow with the text to understand it.
If you don't mind reading this book off of the screen then this is a good buy. However the reader is terrible and has to go back frequently to reread an I'll read passage.
