I had some problems connecting the iPhone camera. I could connect the camera and capture images when starting a new project, but couldn't get the iPhone camera to connect for an existing file. Hopefully the developer will work on this issue.
I’ve been playing around with this for a few days, and really enjoying it. It’s a lot of fun! It’s hard to review just the Remote Camera app, but here goes: it’s simple to use, has a clear interface that works well even when the camera is being held in a strange position, such as in a clamp to get a proper view of the scene. (I do highly recommend a clamp or some other mount, by the way.) Minimizing tapping is important, to avoid jarring the camera while taking a shot, and I think they manage that well. My one complaint is that it uses Bonjour for discovery, without documenting that fact. My WiFi router doesn’t support Bonjour, which led to a great deal of hair-pulling. Bluetooth or manual IP address entry would solve this easily. Right now, the workaround is to create an ad-hoc network with my Mac laptop, which works reasonably well but is a little bit of a pain.
Played with the Mac based one at Lawrence Berkley Hall of Science with the kids and had a done of fun. Bought this one for the iPad and am using my iPhone has the camera. It's working great. Next will let the kids give it a go and post an update.
Produces high-quality videos when it decides to work. If I'm doing a 5-hour project, it takes 8+ hours because of all the times I'm filming and it disconnects after 500 shots and I have to redo the whole scene. Its annoying. Please fix the connection problems.
I was really excited when I found out I could do these kinds of videos and then like the other comments all it does is say "waiting for connection" when my wifi is PERFECT I hope this gets fixed
I've been telling everyone who will listen about the awesome combination of iStopmotion and the remote camera. I must have downloaded after all the wifi problems were fixed because it worked like a charm for me.
App is working fine now after updating iOS to version 6.0.2 with the wifi fix. Before the update it was just stuck at 'Waiting for connection'.
The app is ok,but it needs sound
Started working with the remote camera app a couple days ago and everything seems to work as advertised. Camera got dropped a few times, but I think that had more to do with a weak wifi signal in one of my rooms. Not sure why people are having so many issues.
The simplicity of using an iPhone coupled with an iMac to create stop motion movies is brilliant. No fuss, no muss. My 10 year old son created his first movie in a matter of minutes. I feel like I have the next Tim Burton living under my roof. Just follow the simple on screen directions and you'll be up an running in no time. No crashes - just hours of creative fun. One tip - if you are going to be spending hours at a time (like my son does) making movies, then make sure to plug your phone into a power supply otherwise with the camera being on constantly and sending the images over wifi, the battery will drain...and you don't want to move the camera (iPhone) to connect it to power at an in opportune time in your movie making.
I'm using this app on both my iPod and my iPad 3. It works great!
Hooked right up, works perfectly with 2012 retina Macbook Pro. Perhaps a ½ second lag sending video over wifi but for still pics it's fine. And by the way the new desktop iStopmotion program seems greatly improved too.
It's a good app but I didn't like it because it does not work on iPad 3
This app worked beautifully the very first time I tried it. It is a glorious companion app to istopmotion for the iPad. Remember that this app does nothing by itself. I am not sure why so many other people are having issues with it. If you have istopmotion on your iPad, go ahead and download this - it's free and it works, at least it did for me.
What a great compliment to the iStopMotion iPad app. Wirelessly control the iPhone camera from the iPad… Just amazing! If you have iStopMotion for iPad, then you HAVE to try this out!
No problems at all, never crashed, very good. Really helps when I want to make it from Lego mini figure level. (I make brick films) If it isn't connecting, READ WHAT IT SAYS. It says to open the project in istopmotion, then open the remote camera on your iPhone 4S/ iPod touch 4th gen. Then select the remote camera in the camera selection thing (on your iPad) , and accept on your iPhone or iPod. This app is great and helps a lot. (sometimes)
The app works like advertised. I had no problems syncing up and making movies. Awesome app.
On my first launch it said I needed to be in a certain wifi thingy so I double checked, it was the right wifi! This app is impossible so I deleted it
Great idea but unusable as is.
I can not get in! It's saying I'm not connected when I clearly am
The moment you click on the remote camera name on the ipad the remote camera app crashes! It did work now after update it's broke. Please fix this ASAP.
It says im not connected i am you need to fix this
This is ok if you are intending to use the $50 software with your iPhone, but I like most, purchased the app to work with or DSLR cameras. It lacks any real control I was hoping this app would feature. It would be great to be able to control the basic recording/frame features mirrored to the phone. I gave it a 2 star because I will never use my iPhone as a camera. I'll use my DSLR.
Simply crashes when attempting to wirelessly connect to the desktop.
Usually when I see people's reviews that the app doesn't open, it opens for me. But not this time, it doesn't open!!! Waste of time. And I think the movies in the theater aren't even made in the app I stop motion. Not even worthy of a star. This was stupid
Don't waste time. Maybe better in future.
This app stinks! Worse app. mine doesn't work! I recommend not to get this app!
It doesn't load for me
It says to have a conmection when you already have one!!!!!!
The only good part about it is you can watch people's awesome videos but when you try to make a video it keeps on saying looking for connection when there is connection
Won't stop on connecting to wifi! Thumbs down on this app
It won't stop loading to connect to wifi
Just keeps loading and trying to connect to my wifi even though there is full wifi. FAIL.
It just keeps waiting for a connection, and we have a perfectly good Amount of wi-fi at our house. What the heck?! I have some really Great stop-motion Lego videos in mind, and I really wanna do 'em. Fix, and I just might give this thing 5 Stars.
I could not get this to work.....deleted this app
The only problem is that you need an iPad for this app.
It didn't even let me do anything. It said I needed to connect to wifi I checked it and it said I had 2 out of 3 bars so I suggest not getting it.:(
It crashed the first time I tried to open it. Not worth it
APP KEPT CRASHING WHEN I TRYED TO OPEN IT. deleted soon after. DO NOT INSTALL
Every time I try to use it pops out a Singh saying that it connecting to something but it does not work
U call this great? Well it keeps on crashing on me and I can't use it ugh!
Is it suppose to do something
All you can do is nothing!!! It just pops up and closes down! It needs an update!!!
It won't even load! It's very bad :( DON'T WAIST YOUR TIME ON IT!
I don't know why it Won't load in to my iPhone !!!! I load it in to my iPad but it sees installing in my iPhone for ever without loading !!!
But without ghosting or a fairly smooth iPad to phone ration it is basically worthless to me I might as well just use my iPad.
I hate this app! It won't even let me get into it. It crashes before I can even do anything. Don't download
Same with big star wars fan man! I COMMAND YOU TO FIX THIS!!!!!!!!!
