The Economist Digital Team
The World in 2014, the latest in The Economist's annual collection of predictions, identifies and explores the issues that will shape the year ahead. Journalists from The Economist join luminaries from the worlds of politics, business, science and the arts in offering forecasts for 2014. The app provides free access to a small selection of articles; within the app you can also pay to access the full content of the print edition.
The coming year will be one of sporting shows, political shocks and economic shifts. The big sporting events include the winter Olympics in Russia and the football World Cup in Brazil. The political shocks will come at elections, of which there will be many: countries with around 40% of the world's population will go to the polls. Better news from the rich world will be among the big economic shifts. You can also find out why Matt Damon believes that smart philanthropy can help solve the problem of water scarcity, and about Richard Branson's plan to be on the inaugural flight of his commercial "spaceline".

The audio is not very functional.
I am digital subscriber to the Economist. Only downside is I have to pay 10 dollars extra
I read a lot of iPad magazines and the navigation in this one seems smoother than the others. I even like the Rolex ads that move to the current date and time.
great app, made by hearts. how's everyone in year 2013? gosh year by year and time flies, kind of creepy. but on the other hand, good things are waiting, right?
Short and sweet. Makes me want to get a subscription to The Economist.
...but short! It's definitely worth downloading.
...I couldn't get audio on any of the videos (iPad 3).
This app is one of the best magazine apps, however it sorely requires retina display support on the iPad.
Not only is the content fantastic- this is by far one of the best iPad apps I have used so far. It is beautiful and elegant! The use of white space to keep things comfortable, the simple use of color where needed, the creative navigation! Love the use of the fixed width and HEIGHT for pages allowing print like layouts that look amazing! Love the very subtle navigation hints that show you how to navigate!
One of the best of its kind.
Not too impressed
I bought this app to listen to the audio during my commute. However, the interface for the audio makes it very difficult if not impossible to use for this purpose (unlike like the audio in the Economist’s main iOS app). You must use SoundClouds interface which has been shoehorned into this app very uncleanly. The files require constant wifi access and for the screen to be active (shuts off is the screen dims). Multiple files are mislabeled, misordered, or missing. I’m not sure why the audio here was done so differently from the audio in main Economist app, but the results are frustrating and unusable. Unfortunately, I can’t find any other means to access the audio from this edition which I am very interested in listening to.
The magazine itself does not open. Come on Economist please fix this ASAP. This is very disappointing for your loyal customers who paid $9.00 for nothing.
I made the in-app purchase and then tried to download the full issue. My attempts to download the issue have failed at least 20 times now without getting any readable content to my iPad. I have gotten nothing for the $8.99 purchase. This is very disappointing coming from a publication with the reputation of the The Economist. I expected better.
I just paid $8.99 for the 2014 addition and the screen is showing up blank. How do I get a working version or get my money back? Outside of this glitch looking forward to reading.
I'm not sure why they pushed out the 2014 edition so soon when the customer support page still refers to 2013 and there are no indications on how to download the edition for digital+print subscribers. The 2013 edition made this easy. It's a shame that they have released an unfinished product because the articles in this edition are quite good, probably because they have fewer big names and have concentrated on getting better analysis.
Pitiful. I wanted to read this literary jewel on my iPad but, alas, print subscribers are thrown out in the cold. No full version, just selected articles.
Looks nice but is no bloomberg tv, The audio is like a teani winni you know This is a drap wet digital newspaper, booring
