Two types of elevation.
- Current Elevation
- Ground Elevation
- An internet connection is required for the ground elevation.
I like it. Great app if you want to know how high you are.
I like how this app shows your elevation in the context of the map. Also nice, clean, intuitive interface.
Gave me my elevation super fast and it showed me where I was on the map too! If that isn't cool you also have 3 different map viewing options along with your choice of viewing your current elevation in meters or feet. Pure epicness on a silver platter.
So far so good. It just gave me an accurate elevation reading. Very simple and easy to use. No idea if it will work off the beaten path, but I believe it uses map data, so as long as it can locate your position, it should work.
Clean interface, accurate elevation info :)
What an amazing app. Probably the best one out there. iPhone 5S. Only $0.99 to remove the ads.
After trying several apps I found this to be the best. The map validates your location. It is sensitive and the measurement is in constant motion if you are, but never a variance that is critical. Great for a free app and tested accurate in my mountainous trip west.
It's about 20 feet to high. But it's prolly close enough for whatever you need it for.
Does exactly what it says. Took it hiking and it is extremely accurate.
I see a lot of concerns about GPS elevation. It's not the app. GPS is very accurate laterally (X & Y) but very weak vertically (Z). If it was possible to receive a GPS signal from "below" then it would be great vertically too, but not possible. It takes at least three dispersed location sats "circling" your point to get an accurate reading (basic triangulation). Easy for lateral measurement, impossible for vertical. I'm amazed it does as good as you say.
I used this while driving through the Rockies. Quick and easy reference tool!
Fast, accurate and clean ui.
I got this app for the "map" elevation to calibrate my Garmin's altimeter starting elevation. Gps in general is great for your coordinates; not so great for elevation. Unless you're in a skyscraper or a plane the gps value in this app is of limited usefulness. This is true of any non-pressure based gps measurement. It is unfair to criticize this app for that shortcoming of gps.
Recently in Colorado and App output remained consistent with area postings from 5k to 9600'. When hiking over 11,000' the elevation values for gps and map moved towards a single value typically after 20-30 sec. The values seemed to change appropriate with our continued climbing. Great App.
Map elevation appears relatively accurate, but the Atlantic Ocean in central FL is 132' above "sea level" by GPS measurement???
Standing in my front yard and the phone is about four feet off the ground. MAP is pretty constant around 105'. But GPS varies from 75' to 125'. Wide open sky so GPS should have a signal. Each time I open it the GPS is different. The two should be about the same.
Incredible app. Does exactly what it says. Unsure as to why some people hate it.....
Cool app for those of us who need 2 kno elevation 4 medical reasons!
This app is doing a great job even while driving. I think the poster in the office building is simply confused about what the app is measuring. Whether you were on the 52nd floor or the 100th floor the elevation of the earth below you doesn't change. If the building is on land at 25 feet above sea level, that's what the Apple tell you.
At 10,000ft and counting!
After a few minutes of spinning wheels i gave up and deleted it. Ads work, though!
15 foot variance in same location Did not change when I went 70 feet down into hole
This app will give you altitude for current location only. No way to get altitude for another location.
I had this app for months. It never found my location.
After a few minutes it could not figure out my location so I deleted it.
Won't provide elevation information when panning in the map. Ad is quite intrusive.
After downloading it worked fine. Now it doesn't work at all and I guess I will have to erase and download again. What a pain.
This app is amazing. Superbly efficient at displaying advertisements, while terrifically worthless at providing elevation information. Keep up the great work!
52nd floor Prudential bldg. app shows 25 feet. Does not work
Just updated it on Sunday May 6, 2012. Since that update the app no longer functions. The app just spins and spins. Why us this happening?
In two years I've had it it never worked
Works great. Didn't want anything more than my elevation, and this app does just that.
This is a pretty cool app. I ride my skateboard to and from work and school. So this is a helpful app to know which are the best (downhill) routes. But I wish I didn't have to physically BE at a certain place to know its elevation. I wish that, like in google maps, I could "drop a pin" and see the elevation at that point. A "history" would be nice. Also, "bookmarks," please.
It's not to bad. Pretty accurate. Though, was going over the Newport Bridge here in Rhode Island, and it started to read negative feet. Pretty sure I wasn't going through a tunnel!! Now I am looking for a GOOD altimeter if anyone knows of one!!!!
Great little app to have when hiking and walking in urban areas. I've always liked topographical maps and now I can Better estimate elevation gains in my city.
Great app! Compared to my Garmin and it was within .5 ft. Impressed
I've compared the app readings to topo maps. The app was was a consistent 4 feet higher....because I was holding it 4 feet off the ground! Dead on. A great app for calculating % grade on hills.
I always liked this app and used it often to check my current elevation. The ads always annoyed me but there was no way to get rid if them. This update allows you to pay $.99 to be ad free. I gladly paid that to support the developer and be rid of ads. If you don't mind the ads, you can continue using as is. That's a nice option to have.
I'm a civil engineer and land surveyor. For drainage and flood studies I use this app for basic estimates of elevation and slope across a site. Elevations are not precise but good enough for simple preliminary evaluations.
Downloaded apt, and all I get is black screen. Regretably, Does not work for me
Just downloaded the app and like others, only saw black screen when opening the app. The black screen lasts about 3 seconds and then the shuts down. What is the issue?
This is great. Can we have an option to hide the current elevation banner and a small graph of height v distance would make it awesome.
No problems. Cool app
The title says everything
Works as stated and doesnt falsely advertise as all the altimeter apps do. It compares your GPS coordinates to topographical maps to get your height above sea level. Since not every square inch of the earth has been mapped topographically It won't know if your standing on a hill in your backyard for instance but in general is pretty accurate especially when on public roads that Google has mapped out in the past.
Glad it works for many, but doesn't for me on 32GB iPad with 4.2 installed. Seemed to install properly, but on trying to open all I get is a momentary black screen and then back to Home. Multiple tries, all the same. Force quit the app, tried again, no change. Did a hard reset on the iPad, no change. Deleted app, reinstalled, ran through all of the above again, no change.
Awesome app! Works great! iPhone 4
