Looks like they have fixed the font issue that other reviewers complained about. It's a good app although it does not have some of the advanced features that I am used to with the Wall Street Journal app.
Updated 07/01/2010 An update wad provided. That is now working. I have increased my rating to 4 stars. ***************** I like this app because it allows me to have the magazine at my fingertips without being loaded down with paper. The bookmarks feature is a plus fir me because I cannot always finish an article. Last week I would have given this app a 4, however, since I can now only get to the first screen since upgrading to OS4, I have downgraded the rating by 1 star. I look forward with to the fix. Great JOB!
When I installed this application I received the two latest magazines that were on the news stands. First of all it allows you to view issues quickly, after downloading them. Then you can turn the page zoom in and skim to your hearts desire. You can also do a search through all of the magazines for a certain term which I thought was a handy feature. The application updates news from CIO.com as well. What I would like to see in the future is when you are viewing a page of an issue if you zoom in the sharpness does not get corrected and the lettering/words become pixelated. This is noticeable but it is definitely not distracting to the point where you cannot read it. Neat little app that I will continue to use as I am on this website daily.
This app has a lot of great content however, it crashes like crazy. You are better off going to the website and trying to find the articles and content in the website. Pleas update and fix soon.
The content or magazine is good but the actual app is terrible. It's very slow and crashes often. Fix or update the app and the rating will be much higher.
Will not even run ... Just hard crash before even the first screen comes up. Disappointing... What an opportunity.
I was really expecting the premiere magazine for IT executives to have an iPad app with a superior user experience. If not superior, at least have some of the basics: sharing via Twitter, saving to Instapaper, even emailing a link would be nice. The experience didn't get better when the "save bookmark" feature didn't work (it's saved only within the application I suppose, but don't know since it didn't work). Couple that with a few random crashes and I'd say they definitely earned a 2.
I expected so much more from CIO. I do love the issues in the app, however none of the features work. I can't bookmark, read news, or do anything except browse magazines. Don't offer the features if the don't work!
Don't buy if can get web version. It's free.
It takes forever to refresh news and actually never successful since I bought it. Disappointed
Odd that a magazine focused on tech would have such a poor iPad port. This is way to hard to navigate. It doesn't open to the last page read, pages wont flip, and the font resolution is poor. Fix this!
I was very excited to see this application as I'm a devoted reader of CIO magazine. Unfortunately, the font is so small that you can't read on the iPhone for more than 10 minutes and your eyes will get strained (and I have good eyes!). And this is after you zoomed as much as possible (don't even try reading without zooming). Once this is fixed the application deserves 5 stars... right now, you can just use to know the headlines of the current and past edition. Also, it would be nice if you could read with the iPhone sideways (and again with a larger font). Please, make use of the accelerometer. PS: btw, most CIOs are over 40 yo, so your target audience will have problems reading on the iPhone. I'm surprised the application was released as is.
