The app helps increase well-being by guiding you through 95 experiential exercises, letting you create fun inspirational posters with your own photos and sharing your experience with friends.
The app is based on the book Awakening Joy by James Baraz and Shoshana Alexander. Bill Gates recently recommended the book: "...even if you never read anything in this genre, this book is one you should try."
The app suggests daily exercises that help you towards greater well-being. Go through the themes step by step or select your mood to get the exercise relevant to how you are feeling right now. Turn on reminders to remember the exercise throughout the day.

Choose a photo, select one of the Awakening Joy quotes or type your own words. Or just tap on “Surprise Me!” and let the app automatically create a personalized poster for you. Posters are a great way to keep your journal.

Spread the joy by uploading your posters to Facebook and sending them through email. Send them to Awakening Joy Community.
Ten steps contain 95 experiential exercises and 125 highlights that help you work on Intention for Joy, Mindfulness, Gratefulness, Resilience, Integrity, Letting Go, Loving Yourself, Loving Others, Compassion and Simply Being.
THE MAP OF JOY
The Map of Joy lets you visually evaluate your strengths by dragging markers representing the 10 steps and their qualities. The app uses this data to suggest appropriate daily exercises. For example, if you are less confident in Loving Yourself, the app will more frequently suggest daily exercises from the step Loving Yourself.

Awakening Joy is an internationally recognized course created by noted teacher and author, James Baraz. James has been teaching meditation since 1978 and the Awakening Joy course since 2003. He leads retreats, workshops and classes in the U.S. and abroad and is a founding teacher of Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California.
The app is designed for iPhone, iPod and iPad.
I love the Awakening Joy course and this app is such a great addition. I get hourly reminders of the course concepts, I can interact with them, make posters with photos from my iPhoto library, and more. I can also just read the reminder and smile inwardly, without doing anything else. Love it!
This app has become part of my morning ritual. It is a fantastic companion to the course.

I'm used to paying closer to $1.99 for apps but I am sooo glad I got this app. Here's a program which can have a direct impact on the quality of your life (as it has mine already) within minutes! You can choose activities to do based on your mood and have them sent as reminders to you as often as you wish. Also, I absolutely love the section where you make a poster with your own photo and their quotes on it, and can disseminate to friends if you want. I don't own the book, yet this app is absolutely fantastic on its own once you sit down and figure out all it can do.
I am using this app as a companion to the course and I'm finding it very helpful. I love that I can choose quotes and set reminders to appear throughout the day, and that I can select text and practices based on how I'm feeling at any given moment. I'm also enjoying customizing posters with photos that have personal significance. Overall, a helpful companion to the book and/or course.
I love having Awakening Joy on my phone! Making Buddy Groups is great and the daily exercises are so helpful. I highly recommend the book and the app.
Great app on it's own and as a supplement to the Awakening Joy Book or Awakening Joy course. Practice makes perfect and this app is filled with tons of exercises to help recognize and focus on the things that bring you Joy. I love the "Create Posters with YOUR OWN photos" feature. The Map of Joy is awesome as well. This is an AWESOME app!! I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to start feeling good NOW!!!!
