  • Great app

    by vnsamartinez

It's exactly what I expected, great basic tips and ideas. I do, however, wish it had more recipes and videos... Those would absolutely be helpful for a new cook.

  • What?

    by Ocaoivorew

Ok, there are some cooking "tips"that are pretty neat but recipes? There are not many. Certainly not what I expected. Some good info though. Oh and it crashes, so fun.

  • Love It!

    by Hermie5

I'm the first to admit that I'm not a good cook. But this app has given me so much more confidence I'm willing to try more difficult recipes! I highly recommend it!

  • A beginner's best friend

    by Rorou

I've been avoiding the kitchen for years. Tired of not knowing how to cook gave this app a try. The first meal came out delicious, then the second and third! Love it!

  • REALLY Great!!!!

    by LaDanaWendy

I seldom give a 5 STAR rating because there's always room for improvement but this app is FANTASTIC!! From the Basics and Skills to the demos in every recipe, this app couldn't be any better!!! WELL DONE Mark Bittman and Culinate, Inc.

  • Amazing cookbook and app!

    by Beginnercook

This is an amazing cookbook and the app complements it perfectly. I love the grocery list - so helpful!

  • Mark Bittman's approach to cooking is brilliant.

    by Prentizzo

This app reflects the kind of simplicity and insight that has made the rest of his work so very valuable. Highly recommended.

  • Wonderful

    by NewiPadUser2

What a wonderful idea, a great preface to get me fully comfortable in the kitchen! I have both other apps and this is awesome bc it links to them!

  • Bittman in good form, app clever

    by MsLadyLib

I downloaded this and immediately used it. I am a reasonably accomplished home cook, but found some tips and ideas here that will get me back in the kitchen. A-, because it isn't perfect. Recipes are mostly quick and easy to execute, and explanations are precise enough so that the cook can feel good about trying them. Bittman's voice is good to hear, too, on occasion. Recommended for every level except the very very advanced.

  • Well Worth The Cost

    by bradwat5

If you enjoy spending time in the kitchen, regardless of your skill level, this app is a must have. When I'm looking for ideas, help with a new ingredient to me or a technique, this is the first thing I consult. Probably one of the top 5 most used apps on my iPad.

  • Cooking Basics

    by LMLee49

Cooking Basics is very basic, but who doesn't need a refresher now and then? You learn basics and skills and there are recipes to hone your new skills. If too basic, I also love Mr. Bittman's How to Cook Everything Kitchen Companion (or iPad) which has a bigger variety of recipes. Both apps are very well done.

  • Cool

    by Love Jack Hanna

Nice app! Love it.... Worth the money. Great learning tool!!!!!!!

  • Everyone should have this!

    by elderberry11

As a college student often on the go and on a budget, I find it easy to get stuck in a rut of cooking the same routine dinners, but this app has inspired me to break out of my comfort zone and try new recipes, with the perfect amount of hand-holding along the way. Pictures are BEAUTIFUL and make me want to try everything. I find it especially helpful for tips and suggestions for cooking meat and poultry, which has long intimidated me...also love the features like shopping list, adding notes on recipes, and the built-in timer. I now can't imagine life before I had this app! Absolutely worth it.

  • Another great cooking app from Bitman!

    by Stonecold997

This is a wonderful app. This has has something for everyone. These a ton of knowledge packed in here. I wish I had this when I was just learning to cook!

  • Fantastic!

    by Foodie Marie

This is perfect for anyone who loves to cook or wants to learn. This is so organized and can be used in a way that a book never could. Feels like a class, convenient shopping experience (with shopping lists to create or delete by recipe), and an incredible visual and taste experience all in one. Great purchase!

  • Get cooking!

    by Kay Blair

The cooking basics app has striking photos & graphics and is super easy to navigate. It is a great reference tool for delicious recipes and step by step techniques. My favorite features are the shopping list, notes and photos (I'm always writing in my cookbooks and now I an add photos) and especially the timer built into the recipes. The classes are a bonus you don't get with the book. Great app. Highly recommended. Beaut

  • How to cook everything

    by Uytkgp

Worse cooking app I've ever seen. So basic it's boring if you want a better recipe you have to buy another app. easier and Cheaper to Google for the recipes you want

  • Very limited

    by tookietook

I bought this app thinking it came fully loaded with all the bells and whistles, sadly I found out that it had non of the recipes I wanted so I basically paid for nothing!! I wish there was a way to know what recipes were available before purchasing!!

  • doesn't work!

    by Mazen Altamimi

I have the latest 128GB iPad and this app is refusing to work. It automatically exits. I have removed and reinstalled it several times and it still refuses to work. Kindly fix this bug immediately.

  • Wow!

    by Aged cook

Eye-popping pictures, so many great recipes, and loaded with useful features. Love the built in timer. Also, an easy way to transmit that "pick up on the way home list" that I can actually read.
