Great thinking of narrating with a kid's voice! Even better, the text and pictures are great!
As a last minute situation my 5 year old had a project related to this book, and by being able to get this app, i saved myself a trip to the library or bookstore
My daughter likes to make up tall tales too, so when we read this book together, I ask her to imagine what she thinks is going to happen next. She loves being able to tap around the pictures to find hidden words. The ability to tap on individual words and hear them pronounced is greatly appreciated as it helps my daughter's emerging reading skills.
Okay, I love Dr. Seuss books. This one included. Not only did I grow up with them, but now I share them with my kids. And they love them. I've bought every book that Ocean House media has done in the Dr. Seuss series. Most of them are wonderfully done. But in this one the narration is awful. Whoever the voice actor is that is performing this book is so hard to listen to. Well, really just annoying to listen to. My kids like to listen to the books over, and over, and over, again. Which is fine, I usually don't mind because I enjoy them too. But with this book I almost can't take it anymore. This voice actor is just annoying. The sad thing is, it looks like Ocean House media is using this actor more. I recently bought the Dr. Seuss book "If I ran the zoo." Again, a wonderful Dr. Seuss book. But the narration totally ruins it. Now, whenever my kids want to listen to that book, I tell them to pick another one. Or, I just read it to them myself. Which is nice because I enjoy doing that. But, if anyone from Ocean House media or Dr. Seuss Enterprises reads these reviews can I put in a request? Please, please, please don't use this voice narrator for any more Dr. Seuss books. It's just too painful to listen to. I don't mean to hurt the narrators feelings. I'm sure they were just trying to do the best they could. But the narrator is just not right for these classic Dr. Seuss books. UPDATE: The app was updated, but sadly there is still no update to the narration.
Great story but app is broken. NO SOUND. Please fix!!!
This is a much beloved story in our family. I’ve been waiting for the iPad version and paid and downloaded it without noticing any of the comments, unfortunately. It is REALLY important to get a narration voice that is enjoyable to listen to, the voice itself needs to have a softer smoother more musical quality, gentler for the ears. This voice being used for the narration is simply too hard-edged or harsh to listen to. I immediately turned off the voice, which defeats a great deal of the purpose on an interactive reading book. Simply couldn’t listen to it. So disappointing. You really want to use a narrator who it is enjoyable to hear time and time again — because that is how children of all ages use products like these — or want to. To be able to listen time and again and enjoy the voice each time. It’s good to have an expressive voice, but even more important is a harmonious, rich melodious one. Find a radio voice. It would be so wonderful if you might at some point redo this one for all those who love it. And if it’s true that this narrator is being used for others of the books, I wouldn’t buy any of the others knowing that. *I hope someone is listening*
Whether or not this is a good adaptation of the book, I do not know. The voice of the narrator, shrill and annoying, causes this app to blow.
