After many years of writing in her prayer journal, missionary Sarah Young decided to listen to God with pen in hand, writing down whatever she believed He was saying to her. It was awkward at first, but gradually her journaling changed from monologue to dialogue. She knew her writings were not inspired as Scripture is, but journaling helped her grow closer to God. Others were blessed as she shared her writings, until people all over the world were using her messages. They are written from Jesus’ point of view, thus the title Jesus Calling. It is Sarah’s fervent prayer that our Savior may bless readers with His presence and His peace in ever-deeper measure.
Now these powerful thoughts and insights come to life in this feature-packed interactive app aimed to draw you even further into His peace.
Come. Jesus is calling you.
Read the description, folks! This is the LITE version, meaning it is a trial to give you a taste of the full app before you pay $9.99 for it. This is a great app!...I'm buying the full version now!
There seems to be some confusion with these reviews. I’ve downloaded both the Lite version, and then paid for the full version. The Lite contains 7 days of devotionals so a user can download and see if they like the style of the writing and the message. It “locks up” as some reviewers have stated because it only has 7 days of content. Then, if they do like it, they can purchase the full version like I did. $9.99 for the full version is much less than the cost of the book and it contains all of the devotional entries PLUS written out scripture PLUS awesome search and share features.
The only reason I'm leaving a review is to say that reading all these reviews makes me see how cheap and ridiculous people can be. A tool that can help someone grow closer to Jesus is worth so much. If you are not willing to pay $9.99 for a great app/tool to help you grow closer to The Lord then you should really evaluate your priorities. In 2-3 days we spend more money on coffee.
My favorite app. I have gifted it several times. My journey is so much richer due to the awareness this app brings on the intimate relationship Jesus desires with us. I would like to be able to swipe to go from note page to note page from day to day just like you can with each day's devotional. (Swiping left or right while viewing a day's reading will take you to the day before or after very quickly. I'd like that feature to also be available in the notes feature that I use as a diary)
I have went out and bought the daily devotional about 7 months ago. However, I find it easier to carry it on my phone. I see NO problem paying for the App because I paid 15.99 in the store. This is cheaper and is reasonable. The Word says to give honor where it is due and I believe this deserves great rewarding. The Holy Ghost has spoke to me through this and uses it to move and shake me. It is well worth 9.99!!! No complaint here (:
This I a great way to try the app version of this book and decide if its good for me or not.. To all the people complaining about the price: that's about what you would have to pay in store for the book version of this devotional - I think it's great to offer this as an app as well! And the content is just amazing!
I really like the light version for my mobile. I already have the full version for my Nook. It would be perfect if this was an app in itself. With no reminders for upgrades. Solution might be to create a trial app with ads for upgrades. Right now though my app is stuck in the first week of March 2013.
I love the devotions in this app and also enjoy the convenience of having it on my phone so I can read them anytime. However, I already own the book and can't see paying full price for the app. I would love it if there was a discount available to book owners or perhaps just a less expensive price for the app itself.
This app is awesome but maybe I'm unable to see the description on my iPod but I didn't see that it's only for a week. There are many others less expensive so will look for another since my week is up
Love the app and highly recommend it. But.. I have to reinstall every few days cause it does not update daily. Right now the last day is 4 days ago. Also don't like the fact that every time I open I have to decline buying the full version. With such an inspirational app isn't the purpose of the app more important than money????
This author has allowed God to use her to speak to my lost, confused, desperate soul.
It is easy to misunderstand that the free app is one week at a time. It is not- this is just a trial. Please keep that in mind. Wish the word "trial" was in the description. Evenso, this is a beautiful devotional both in word and in layout. I love that the verses are written out, unlike the book version. It is easy to read and touches the heart. I feel it is worth the full version if you can afford it- which I currently cannot. But I am happy to have the print version. 3 stars for the app- 5 if the word "trial" were in the description. 5+ stars for the devotion itself.
It is to bad when peoples greed is more important then Gods love. I uninstall every week and reinstall works fine, if it was only a couple of dollars I would buy the app. There would be a lot more people buying the app if it wasn't so expensive. Is this app about money or Gods love????
Buy the book, this app is only for one week. Actually I recommend God calling over this. Same idea and better app!
Stopped updating to current day. Liked that it spelled out the verses by if it doesn't update it's not helpful
This was ridiculous! I had no idea I paid 2.99 for one weeks worth of devotions! The full devotional is only 7$ more but now after this waste I will not buy. Sadly I feel soo ripped off!! Why even have this as an option??
It is just a trial. I did not know when I downloaded it. Can't see paying $9.99 for devotions. I shouldn't be surprised, all Christian paraphernalia is way over priced. Sticking to my book.
Was a great app that I received a lot from.. Please fix this it was something I looked forward to everyday
It's not lite. It is temporary. The publisher should convey the truth about this app. Bait and Switch!
I can tell by the other reviews that most people are giving this app more credit than it deserves- the app isn't "locking up" after a week- the developers are trying to force you to buy the full version. Charging $9.99 for a devotional app is not cool. And offering 7 days of content then requiring a purchase to continue is plain wrong.
I travel constantly on business; carrying the book and my Bible is too much weight. The app locked after a week in the Lite version, and numerous attempts to reload, etc. didn't work. $9.99 is ridiculous to pay for the full version under any circumstance, and I wouldn't take the risk to buy that after my experience with the Lite version.
Matthew 21:12-13 Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. "It is written," he said to them, " 'My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it a 'den of robbers.' "
The review of "Jesus Calling" by "Suzy Creamcheese" is as phony-baloney as her assumed name! She claims that the earlier book "God Calling" was plagiarized in the writing of the incredibly wonderful book "Jesus Calling." The only similarity is that they are both devotional books composed of prophecy like daily entries. The are by no means identical at all. "Jesus Calling" is completely Biblical, and a wonderful Daily source of Godly Wisdom, written by a long term missionary. On the other hand "God Calling" was written by two women of different faiths, one of which was Roman Catholic, and reeks with non-Biblical AND non Christian doctrine. The very first "devotional" ("today's") extolled the "virtues" of communing (praying) to our dead loved ones, seeking intercession with "god." This is not Biblical Christianity, it is an attempt to discredit the plain teaching of the Bible!
I have purchased several paperback and leather bounds editions... To have to pay for an app while away from my books is very disappointing... Some may call it greed. However, best daily devotional I have ever had and will continue to buy additional copies for family and friends.
Love the idea but after about a week the app froze and would not provide any new readings
This NOT a review of Sarah Young's book, Jesus Calling, but rather a review of the app. The book is amazing, but the app is a joke. It's not a real app, but a 7 day trial to get you to buy the full version for $9.99 (which is INSANE for an app- I just bought the actual hardcover book for $10.99!). I'm sure Sarah Young has nothing to do with the pricing or development of this app, but the annoying, money hungry weasel that DID develop this app is making her look bad.
God is a multiplier where our actions intersect with His will. I would like to suggest that the publisher begin to TRUST in this truth rather than their own marketing prowess to access this abundance. In my household we own several physical copies of the book, but I will not purchase this app until full sharing is restored.
Today is Jul 14 and the app is frozen on Jul 12. If I had read the reviews before installing, i would not have downloaded this devotional. The question is that if I pay $9.99 for the full version will the same thing happen? NOT worth the chance.
I had this app before my iPhone was stolen. I absolutely loved it...can't seem to get it back and 10.00 is simply asking too much, it's a shame! I've had several of the books, but gave them away to encourage others. It would be nice to have it again, so inspirational! Oh, we'll. there are other apps. Out there to read and be encouraged by. Too bad, I hope it's worth all the money you are making from this.....
Don't download this! It works well but doesn't even give you the right dates.
It stopped working after a week.
I have a hard time believing that the woman who claims to have written this book has not been brought to justice for identity theft as well as plagiarism. Every word that she transcribed into this forgery she took from the book, God Calling. That book was written down by two older English ladies who themselves took no credit. They gave the material to A.J. Russell, an editor, to put into a book the words that were spoken to them by Jesus. It was published the 1st time in 1950. They wanted to remain anonymous, and referred to as simply "Two Listeners". As it should have been. Jesus calling is making it's forgery a tidy little profit for Sarah young. Not content to steal the contents of God Calling, she also stole the story of the Two Listeners, and inserted herself into their very real conversations with The Lord. I was a bit put off by the title of this woman's book as it isn't "inspired" honestly, she changed one word to get the same readers. To all the people who haven't yet decided to buy this book and ten bucks on the app (just a bit too greedy miss young), I urge you to first read "God Calling". The Truth, the humility that was given to the people with no acknowledgment themselves, is truly an inspiring book, and as soon as one reads even just a page, the truth will be known as to what Ms. young has done. It sickens me to know that she's profited by fame alone with it. Knowing that is has been plagariazed so effortlessly without any question, angers me. What I do look forward to is the day that she will be exposed.
Book is good. App is crap. Not really worth a star.
Very sad to only get a few days worth before it stopped.
I purchased the app a couple of years ago and they removed it from iTunes. When I contacted them, their response, "it was deleted and we cannot supply an 'update;' you need to purchase AGAIN." So really, IT WAS STOLLEN after I paid $10. Shame on Thomas Nelson. My 1-star is NEGATIVE.
This app should be called Jesus Calling Sample.in the description it says its only going to give you one week of devotions but the next line needs to say, "and then you must purchase the app for it to keep working."
Love Jesus Calling, I bought the book years ago, then decided to buy the app for $9.99, then upgraded my phone and the app is gone! And I'm expected to pay another $9.99 - so disappointed. I guess it's time to find a different devotional - sad....
I hate giving this such a low rating, since I absolutely love this devotional- but it only showed a couple weeks' worth of devotionals and then stopped updating. And $9.99 for the full version is ridiculous!
I loved this app for about a week. Then the app decided not to move past a specific day for devotional readings. I have deleted, re-installed, powered off my phone...nothing works. Definitely not worth the build up of a great app and then let down when the app locks up!
Love the devotional book. The lite version seems to be a trial. Locked up after a few days of use
It only show a few days and they are in November. The search doesn't work either! I love this book n wish I could read it on my phone.
The devotionals are good but the date is off by over a month. I was reading march devotionals in April. I looked for a settings menu to fix the problem but there isn't one. I am annoyed enough not to buy the full version
I agree with ally....I too have the book and bought several more for friends and family. Paying more for an iPad app is not good sense for me. I haven't started reading the app but I think I will delete the app before I get started. Thank you for thevrenews.
You only get one week then must spend 9.99. I have never spent that much money in an app. Let me know when you have a 50% off sale.
The devotional content is very good, but nowhere do they tell you you're only getting 7 days worth unless you pay for full version. I don't expect this from an app with the name Jesus in the title.
Only get a few days then the app is totally useless. This isn't a "lite" version, it's more like a sample version. Too expensive for the full version. Don't bother downloading unless you are interested in spending the money for the full version.
Disappointing. This lite version only gives you one week's worth. You must buy the full version (over-priced if you already own the book) to truly enjoy the app.
I have the actual book given to me as a gift. I love it. I think the books should have free codes for all the practice apps that are available. Unfortunately that's a money issue.
I totally agree w/others who have this book (I do) & how I got this app thinking I would be able to use it on my phone or iPad when not at home. And yes, the other app is overpriced. Very disappointing!!
How can I open my already purchased Jesus Calling iBook in the free app?
This is only temporarily free, and another example of the countless ways this religion is used to empty peoples pockets. After the free trial, they demand ten dollars. It is absolutely disgusting and you should think twice before you let these criminal Christians into your wallet.
Apparently the 'free' app is only a 1 week trial but no where on the actual app does it state that. The full app is $10 to purchase!!!! Wow. There are many other wonderful apps that share God's word, inspire and motivate for free or for a reasonable charge. I suggest downloading one of those instead.
Too many "free" devotionals that are just as good.
