Customer Reviews

  • One of the first and most innovative

    by jedipadmaster

This is not your traditional touch the answer Lang. Arts app! That's what I love about it! I like this app because it makes use of the iOS device you can shake it, save the phrases as story starters and more. I like posting a phrase online then asking folks to find the nouns and then post the answers later. One of the selling points of this app for me is that kids like it! You don't have to force them to "play it"

  • Great app- not all parts of speech covered.

    by Lskiway

This is a great app, but it doesn't cover pronouns or adverbs, which makes this a little harder to use at the upper el. and middle levels.

  • Awesome

    by Anxious22

One of the best apps in the store!! Keep on updating!

  • So much fun!

    by Ruby Red_

My grandson and I really enjoy this app. What a fun way to learn.

  • Funny & educational

    by Dawn Aubrey

My son loves this app. The Quiz Mode is his favorite part. I like that he learns as he plays.

  • Writing and Grammar Made Fun!!!

    by mom2alexthegr8

This app is great, creative, fun learning for elementary aged children and up! With three ways to play (Shake It, Story Starter, and Quiz Me), you can see randomly generated silly sentences and tap the words for definitions, or, in Quiz Me, you tap the requested parts of speech (nouns, verbs, prepositions and adjectives). Story Starter gives the user randomized creative ideas for starting a story! This is a amazing app for creativity, working on parts of speech in an amusing way, learning new words and their meaning in context, and more! The abilty to select themes throughout the app makes it even more engaging! I recommend this app!

  • Fun way to learn words and grammar!

    by R Bean

This is a great app for developing vocabulary and understanding how words function in a sentence. The wacky sentences bring tons of giggles! The Quiz Me part is very well done. Highly recommend!

  • A great way to learn language!

    by MomIAm42

This is a great game for our long road trips. My kids can learn so much from it! I really love the Quiz me! Part - a fun way to learn about Adjectives, Verbs, nouns etc.

  • this will get you talking

    by JackieBryla

Shake-a-Phrase is a fun app to get you talking! I use this app during speech/language sessions for the older kiddos that are working at the conversational level. It is a great turn taking activity too. The app has a "theme" section that is wonderful for choosing story starters or quizzes with particular themes (animals, fairytale, monsters, sports). It has a comprehensive setting area where you can select nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions and conjunctions as well as choose the mode of play (shake it - sentences, story starter or quiz). This is a wonderful app for vocabulary development too. I highly recommend it. ACTbyJackieBryla

  • Fun

    by jxdad

The sentences themselves are entertaining, but the things the kids come up with from the story starter mode are even better.

  • Great fun for the kids!

    by Patrick McNamara

My kids hate to read, but on a road trip they spent 3 hours reading to each other and laughing instead of fighting! Great start! I look forward to more apps! PM

  • Elementary?

    by OkieDokieOSU

I work with 2nd grade students and would love to use something like this as a tool to encourage storytelling as well as language development. However, the complexity/difficulty of many of the words discourages this. I wish there were a setting to indicate grade and/or reading level of the player. Otherwise I love the creativity this inspires.

  • Good writing prompt

    by Elfgamer

I teach a Digital Storytelling class to middle schoolers, and they often need help brainstorming to get stories going. This app is a fun way for them to get physical and get some ideas. The different categories are great for them, since they all have different interests and can pick what categories they want to write about. I'll definitely be trying this out with my students!

  • Great concept...not so creepy anymore! Thank you!

    by Allymic7

I really appreciate the update to this app! Awesome job! I feel confident I will be able to use this with even my elementary age students as well as middle school aged students in language therapy now...and it won't be scary. I love that I can select a theme now; such as sports, animals and fairy tale. You even toned down the monsters a bit.I really like that students can read the sentences and identify different parts of the sentences. Shaking to get a new sentence is fun too, so glad you toned down the creepy vocabulary; such as, "zombie", "witches and spells" and provided options for less Halloweenish vocabulary!

  • Great, but...

    by LaLaBFA

Please consider adding these other parts of speech...adverbs and pronouns. Thanks!

  • Great fun!

    by nclark499

I use this daily in class. And then when I come home, I use it with my kids! We've had so much fun!

  • Cool Graphics-Heady Words

    by Nochores

I was hoping to use this with American 4th graders. The concept is exactly right but the prompts are too obscure.

  • Words not pronounced

    by Meg.Figueroa

Looks good so far, but it would be nice if the words could be pronounced when you click on them for students who are unsure of what the word is. This would be a fantastic app for my students, but if they don't know how to pronounce the words, it doesn't really help them learn new vocabulary.

  • Parts of Speech/Writing Prompts

    by Pandagrey

This was my first educational app I downloaded to my phone just to get the writing prompts. Then I discovered the Quiz Me section for learning the parts of speech and handed my phone to my students for a quick assessment. 6 months later I bought an iPad and now they work in pairs. My students absolutely love this app! It really inspires and motivates! The new update of more vocabulary words is going to rock their world when we return to school! (Thanks so so much for the update. My kids love being able to look up new words.) I'm also using this app now when tutoring and am getting the MarbleMath app too to use! Thanks again for the update threefold as I wouldn't have known about new app MarbleMath. A testimony to their privacy too!

  • Fun Fun Fun!

    by K8ofNH

I recently had an opportunity to use this app at a family gathering, the entire crowd, of all ages, had so much fun! The younger crowd enjoyed the Quiz mode of the app. I like all 3 modes of the app. I found it to be educational and fun for everyone. The silly sentences brought lots of laughter. I would recommend this as a great, family friendly app.

  • Don't waste your money

    by Michael and Daniela Thomas

It auto generates silly sentences, that's about it. I was hoping the app helped kids create their OWN silly sentences. There is the quiz section to identify nouns, verbs, and adjectives, but there a ton of other apps to identify parts of a sentence. Save your money and find another app that might actually be useful.

  • To difficult

    by 5 kids

    Needs graduated levels :(

  • Not good.

    by Mama Lyons

Don't even bother. This app is so lame.

  • Stupid-Wouldn't use it even if it was free

    by Salist

I can't believe they're charging $2 for this app. I shook a phrase about 3 times before I realized that I can come up with more clever sentences (that make more sense by the way) than this dumb app ever will. Don't waste your money!

  • Room for improvement

    by cjbvm

When I got this, I thought it was more like the "mad libs" where it asks for "nouns" isn't. It makes "silly sentences" and then you go from there. I think it would be better for "smaller" sentences as there is a lot of words (esp when they don't make sence) and if instead of making the kids "find the nouns" asked them for nouns making the sentences "their silliness" dind't hold attention for long...

  • Great

    by Get batter quick

It helps everything it sovls your problems so use it

  • Review of the app

    by Universal truth

The app is interesting, maybe as a game, but it is hard to navigate. It does not let the students see their mistakes, and it does not let you reset the level on the quiz. I would not buy the app!

  • Could Be Better

    by Minnezota53

This app is on the way to being great! It needs text to speech capabilities for students with special needs. It also needs a level of more simple sentences for younger students. It might also be nice if teachers could add their own sentences. These suggestions would make this app, great!

  • Great language and literacy app!

    by Roise

I love the range of vocabulary and combination of sentences. Great app for getting exposure to a wide range of vocabulary words in a fun way. Would really like to see the developers take advantage of VoiceOver. I would like to use VoiceOver to help give an auditory cue to a word I'm having a hard time reading or understanding. I would especially like to see it integrate and work with the definitions. Currently if I turn VoiceOver on it will read each individual word but it will also add the word "button" after each word. Adding this feature would turn four stars into five stars! :-)

  • Fun and smart

    by Tuesdae

A fun app for older kids. Some of the phrases are hilarious, so it gets addicting--you keep hitting Shake to get a new sentence. The Monsters category is especially funny. I also like that you can save your favorites so you can reread only the best ones. But my favorite part is the quiz. It's great to have something that interactive to engage kids, plus you get to level up by collecting bananas!

  • !

    by johnny forpinmarleross

Hahahahahaha!!!! I know the guy who made this app!!!!!!!! He is a very mice person!!!!!!!!

  • Casey Gesenhues

    by caseygesenhues

I think this could be really good but if it is advertised as an educational app for students 8+ it should not include words like intoxicated and so forth. This would be hard to use in my classroom for that reason. I just wasted my money.

  • FUN

    by DJGus

Fun to do with family, friends, in the classroom. We really enjoy this app!

  • Wonderful

    by pablo119

I am a teacher and also have a child in 4th grade. I can't wait to is this app to help to teach writing skills!!!

  • Fantastic!

    by Allthegoodnicknames

Love that a theme can be chosen. The sentences are a great way to painlessly meet new words. Short & sweet; don't have to make it a lesson at all, just fun.

  • Great tool for learning

    by Tenness

I am a Speech/Language Pathologist and plan on using this with my students next year. What fun!

  • Fun Learning!

    by MLMontoya

Kids had a blast using this app. I learned a few new words myself! Gio

  • What?

    by Reznik1011

How does this teach vocabulary? By generating random disconnected words? What is a "gleaming architect"for instance?

  • Shake new vocabulary!

    by rsu21atspecialist

Fun, interactive, and rich with vocabulary, shake a phrase is a great way to engage students into learning about grammar and vocabulary! Click on a word to get a definition from a fun sentence or play a parts of speech game, then shake the device for more funny sentences! From an accessibility standpoint I would love to see a setting to turn on or off text to speech for those with reading challenges. This way, everyone can learn new vocabulary!

  • Educational and fun!!

    by Vzgirl4477

What a clever way to learn your nouns and verbs. I loved doing the quizzes and it was soo much fun! Finally an App that is great for kids to learn and have fun all at the same time

  • What a great app!!

    by Snafoo

I bought this app for my kids and they love it. I've found myself playing it a lot too. It's just a great, fun way to learn nouns, verb, adjectives.... Well thought out and loaded with info.

  • SO clever!

    by DayDayT

My grandson loves it! And, frankly, I've learned a thing or two. This is just the new kind of thinking we need to make learning fun. Glad I got it.

  • Great new app

    by Glensoto

This app is fun. As an adult I am having good laughs reading the phrases and can see how this app could be a great learning tool for young kids to expand their vocabulary as they could be entertained for hours.

  • Son loves it

    by dandag

Stumbled on this last night and decided to take a chance. My wife and I wanted to go out for dinner with friends and we needed something to occupy the little man with but at the same time was educational for him. It kept him busy while we caught up with our friends. The quiz really kept his interest. There's so many great learning apps out there but not many have made him laugh and learn at the same time. Only thing is some of the words he's not ready for since he's only 7 but now the dictionary app is finally getting used more often which is actually great.

  • Love it!

    by Daniellejdelong

Great app. For kids! Teaches me too lol. Also I think the set up on the app is great, very easy to use.

  • This is amazing!!

    by Yolanda705

This app is genius!! As an adult, I still got some answers wrong! Keeps you on your toes!! Love how simple it is to use.
