  • Getting there... Eventually

2/13/14 Once again, I can't believe that a spreadsheet viewed in landscape ends up with maybe one-third of the actual spreadsheet contents visible at a time, while other UI elements take up all the other space, with no way to collapse or hide those other elements and no full-screen option. I'm not sure what the best solution would be, but I'd start with losing the extra, useless margin in the sheet selector, and possibly shrink the top bar and tool bar a little? 1/26/14 What?! Cannot copy a cell or range of cells from one spreadsheet to another? Really?? 10/1/13 Ability to star/unstar documents in Recent tab is GONE, yet files still seem to retain their previous starred status. PLEASE FIX. 9/7/13 Open In function has been restored. Also, it seems odd that the top bar in the app is a bit higher than necessary. 9/6/13 A year later and not really much of an upgrade in terms of features, but some UI changes that may prove welcome in time. At least the app has still been solid for me, and Dropbox connection still works fine. As for INSERT/DELETE spreadsheet rows and columns, the functions are still there, but just a little hidden: you need to tap and hold a row or column selector to access row/column editing options, but good luck if you have a short row or narrow column, in which case you'll probably just end up in row/column resizing mode, unless perhaps if you have tiny fingers. As for the new sheet selector/tabs in the spreadsheet component, it's really nice to have quick access to worksheets, but then the tabs take up so much of minimal screen space (including the extra space under the tabs which seems wasted). A simple menu option or swipe gesture (or both) to show/hide the sheet selector would probably be a good solution. 10/5/12 Another seemingly POINTLESS ANNOYANCE is that the Cloud tab often randomly (?) reverts to the root directory, as if to just p*ss you off. It is also unclear how the app determines which files to sync or how many subdirectory levels to check. It certainly doesn't scan and compare them all—likely to increase efficiency—but a file in another directory or subdirectory may have been opened via the very handy Recent tab and then modified, but then doesn't sync when selecting the Cloud tab, resulting in not-infrequent sync conflicts. 6/24/12 Another feature missing that is present in Excel is conditional formatting. What a welcomed addition to DTG that would be. 3/8/12 Do you know what the best thing about Quickoffice is? It generally makes me appreciate this product a lot more. Make that 3-AND-A-HALF stars... No, I'll even go FOUR. For now... 5/3/11 It's a little ridiculous that an entire folder, subfolders and files can't be synced in a one-step, manual process like every other Dropbox-connected app I have. The auto-sync of every folder on access really degrades usability. DataViz, please see "ReaddleDocs" and "GoodReader" for examples of Dropbox integration done right. 4/28/11 And an update on the issue where spreadsheets modified on the desktop open in DTG scrolled to column BM: .xls files only, not .xlsx. 4/27/11 Dropbox integration works alright for me, but the constant refreshing of content is SO annoying and inefficient. How about a setting for manual/auto refresh? On a side note, not being able to swap the "Store" tab (really just an in-app upgrade screen) with a tab you actually use is pretty asinine. 4/7/11 It's unthinkable that Spreadsheet cannot be used in multitasking... Almost A YEAR LATER. Resume Docs to Go from another app, try to enter data into a cell... CRASH!!! This applies only to "Recent" files. Could be a FIVE-STAR app. 11/9/10 "Bug fix update" fail. Exact same multitasking crash bug as described below. 10/29/10 Just reiterating my disgust with the multi-line formula bar (see below). So much potential, but usability has to come first. Put the "X" to clear back, and make expansion to multi-line content-dependent. Please? Thanks. 9/27/10 The only way to navigate back from the search pane once the keyboard is displayed is to enter text and search, or close and reopen the app. 9/15/10 A number of improvements and bug fixes in this update, including several that happen to resolve previous complaints or requests of mine. This is progress. But now the app flat out crashes every time I open it while running in "multi-tasking" mode, to the spreadsheet previously opened, and then tap the formula bar in order to enter data. CRASH. Now that I have come to rely on this app for seveal things, this is a huge problem. Also, the changes to the spreadsheet formula bar a few updates ago are somewhat detrimental to usability. 1. There is no longer an X in the text box to clear the contents in one step which was very handy. 2. The automatic expansion of the text box to multi-line is annoying and would be better if it expanded only when needed. 3. The expanded text box in landscape makes it impossible to access other cells or navigate the sheet as was possible before. Still no ability to create spreadsheet CELL BORDERS. Maybe if I asked nicely? Who knows? ------------------------- One glaring omission in the spreadsheet app is the ability to work with CELL BORDERS! Also, the rendering of sheets when scrolling beyond a certain amount of content is slow, but within that amount, it is quite smooth. I think QuickOffice does a little better in this respect. Also, the sheet name does not appear anywhere but in the sheet selector. I like how that marginal app, "Spreadsheet", deals with displaying workbook and worksheet names. And this app lacks sheet sorting which QuickOffice provides, but does have sheet thumbnails/previews in the sheet selector, which is extremely handy.

  • Please add columns

    by CB_5

I love this app and use it every day for multiple uses. But please add the ability to word wrap multiple columns to view all in one screen. That's the one thing I need it to be able to do

  • ERRORS

    by Camasav

I love this program and use it very heavily. But recently, I am unable to email a file from my work email, to my work email remote desktop on Exchange. No matter what emails I select to and from, which is my work email, the program selects a different email to send from or a different email to send to after the send button has been pressed. It has happened both ways. I know because I checked my sent folders in all of my 5 email accounts on my phone. Please Fix, as this is the quickest way to send files to my remote desktop, and exchange doesn't like accepting files from another email account.

  • OK

    by BingBingBing

File management works better now thanks. If I am zoomed in on a page, if I then select words to edit, I don't need a magnifying glass anymore, for it makes the selection smaller than the text I'm actually working with. I still would like to have an option for pass word protection before using this app.

Does as good as any I have found to provide access to PC files.

  • Step Back

    by J&M50

Version 5 interface us not user friendly - mire steps to do what you want. Also annoying message about unsaved document (used to auto save). Select/copy difficult to use. It is stable. Like many apps/programs new interface is 'slick' but less user friendly.

  • Return to functionality

    by Sliv99

This program was crashing all the time till the last update. How there seems to be some stability I will therefore move this program from one star back to four stars This is simply the best app for managing large numbers of Microsoft word files on my phone. It allows for multiple folder levels and it's file sizes are much smaller than Pages. There is also no need for annoying file conversion. A few things keep me from adding a fifth star -there is still anxiety and not trusting it not to start crashing again hopefully this will be allayed over time - The synchronizing app on my computer has to be closed and reopened before it will sync

  • Could do what others could not

    by disguntled user

Bought the original quickoffice. It was great till google bought it and ruined it. It became so buggy that it was useless and then I tried the new google version, It does not support microsoft tables which I use in every single document I send out. So that was a no go. Tried Pages, same thing as quickoffice. Tried Textilus and IA writer. Neither of them supported the tables. So in a last fit of desperation before I tore out the rest of my hair, I bought documents to go. It luckily supported the tables, although they don't show up in the document while I'm editing, they are there and they show up when you print out. So big sigh of relief. I'm praying they don't go out of business or get bought out. If they do, my ipad will be relegated to a fancy toy. The reason they don't get 5 stars is because I'd like to see page separation, I can't see which page is page one and which page is page two. The need to have a way to see that so you can format your document accordingly instead of doing cleanup back at the office. QuickOffice had that feature. Also, I would like to see the tables and footers in the document. That would be really nice. In addition, the page rendering is a little slow and the screen goes dark each second it pulls a file up. Lastly, they advertise the 9.99 version as being able to sync with dropbox. You cannot and need the expensive version to do that. Then I had to upgrade premium and now I'm a little concerned the upgrade edition will not get the same upgrade features as the premium in the App Store when they come out with updates because it does not show up in the appstore that I purchased the premium version. Hope this helps someone who's looking to purchase a word processing program and I hope it helps the company figure out what they can improve on.

  • Much improved!

    by Rockhound211

Most of my complaints from my last review of this app have been resolved. It is now very stable and now mostly works the way it should. My only real problem with it is that I still can't find any way to return to full screen mode once I start editing the file short of closing it, thus losing my position in the file. This is not that big of a problem, but it is still annoying.

  • Works great

    by Stringfellow Hawk airwolf

I use this app daily. To update and fill in logs and write reports using my voice typing option on my 5s. I also have it attached to my drop box account.

  • Great app, with serious problem since last update

    by ArynnOctavia

I've used this app for years (since I was in college). The first version I got was actually on my Palm TX, and when I upgraded to iPod touch, I got it for the new device. And then got it for iPad when I got one. I used it a lot for college, including using the PowerPoint functionality as flash cards. I am a writer as well, so since college, I have used it to write without having to lug my laptop everywhere. It is a great app, but since the latest update, it is not possible to keep a file open. When I leave the app, even for only a moment (to check the internet, something I do quite often while writing), and go back into the app, I am brought to the main page, not the file I was currently writing in. When I go back into the file, I am told that it was not shut down properly, and asked if I want to open the file with the changes made since the last save. Sometimes, not all the changes made since the last save are present. Having to hit save before leaving the app is a bit annoying, but having to load the file again, even if it was saved, is time consuming and can kill any momentum I my have been feeling while writing. The app did not used to do this, as I could leave the app running in the background indefinitely, and go back to write hours later, right where I was. If this mini crash would stop, I would give the app a 5/5, but as is, the app is more trouble than it is worth for my personal writing style.

  • New update has fixed major problems! Thank you!!

    by Starwars26

First the good...the new update has made it possible for me to open my documents on Ipod 4 without crashing, so I was finally able to sync previous docs that weren't synced before. Still having some glitches but at least these are workable. But...tech support was not the greatest. Took forever to get a reply, and then their only answer was to delete the app and re-install, knowing that it would delete all my docs that hadn't been synced. I followed my gut instead and held my breath for the new update and success! Had I listened to tech support, I would have lost a lot of valuable data. So kudos for the update getting things mainly back to workable, but boos to tech support for their bad advice

  • Indispensible.

    by Calv1n1st1c

I have only grown more and more impressed, the longer I've used this: the freedom to write _anywhere_ while on my phone has been a liberating, ever-dependable G*dsend--and I'm SO thankful for it! Dataviz impressed me in the 90's with their format translation software (before Word played nice with Macs). It's great to see it evident that they've kept their standards high.

  • Just reinstall

    by PedKidneyDoc

I had same problem. After upgrade to OS7 it wouldn't even open. I deleted it from my iphone then reinstalled from iTunes, now works fine on my 5s

  • Works well for me

    by gfpk

This app does what I need it to most--it syncs my documents between my Mac & my phone so I have the latest version in both locations without having to store everything in the cloud. Yes, I have had trouble with syncing at times over the last 4 years, but I have always been able to get it resolved, though sometimes it took a couple weeks. It only has basic formatting and editing features when working on docs & spreadsheets, but it still lets me input what I need, sync it to my Mac then do more formatting. It works for my needs, and it's the only thing that I could find that does.

Since the new update the sleep mode has been pitiful. When you close the app it take you back to the desktop. If you leave a doc open you stand the risk of losing everything. Please fix this because it is driving me crazy. The old doc would let me leave my doc open and not lose anything. Emanuel

What's the deal guys? Your advertising says that this is supported! Here's what I did: 1. Using Microsoft Word 2013, I created a 2007 formatted document and placed a password on it. 2. I saved this file to my Dropbox folder. 3. When I go to open it with DocsToGo version 5.0.6 it tells me it is unable to open Word 2007 password-protected files. This is very frustrating!

  • No USB sync capability

    by Blaeref

If your iTunes wifi sync is functioning well, this app may may be fine for you. However, if you have wifi sync issues and typically sync via USB, this app may be a waste of time and money. I have always had wifi sync issues through multiple iPhones and multiple PC's. Therefore, all I have done is fight with this app to make my stuff sync. It would be tremendously helpful if the app was capable of syncing via USB, but it is not. I know that sounds ridiculous, but their own support site says so - as does experience with the app.

    by Danny Aces

I don't recommend wasting your money on this App, there are far superior products out. It crashes more than other Apps and the user interface is weak when working in Word or Excel. PowerPoint is hardly supported and most graphics are distorted when viewing presentations. Lastly, the graphs don't show up in Excel. Save your money.

    by Disappointed2012Fan

File sync via Dropbox keeps saying Connection Failed on iPad. I have purchased the premium in-app DocsToGo upgrade specifically for this feature. Please fix this ASAP. Thanks

  • Broken for OpenOffice

    by astolat

This app was fantastic for a long while, and then suddenly none of my OpenOffice or LibreOffice files (even though saved as Word 97 .doc format) would open anymore, reporting corruption. They say they don't support OO, so this app is now completely useless for any Mac user unless you are willing to give up all macros and surrender to the buggy crippleware that is Microsoft Word for Mac. Very disappointing. :(

  • I love when an update dumbs down an app

    by Okkoto86

The app is basically broken for me know. I only used this app to read excel docs my company sent that refused to display on my iDevices. This app will open them with all the cells blacked out, and I used to be able to change the cell color to white and read the documents. Now as far as I can tell all the cell editing features are gone. How can a $10 app remove the option to change the color of a cell? There's $10 down the drain. And the new interface is hideous.

  • Sync PC Windows 8 :-(

    by Magic RichC

I can no longer sync to PC using Windows 8. I have been through the troubleshooting steps several times with no success. I guess I won't be upgrading.

  • Newest update 12/2

    by Dragonfly069

Again!!! Still Can't open app after newest update please please fix, I can't get to any of my docs.

  • Terrible!!!

    by MrDeevo

Can you the app to point where it doesn't crash?!?! You've taken an awesome app and made it terrible!!!

  • New download doesn't word count

    by Tha Chairman

After downloading the newest update, I found that the "word count" feature doesn't work like it did before. When I tap the "word count" feature in a Word Document, the screen freezes and turns grey, until you re-tap the document, then it return to previous state. Could you attempt to fix this minor detail?

  • No folders

    by CPSH

After using this for 3 years, I find it no longer allows you to organize by folders - a huge inconvience. Time to look for another solution.....

  • I... give... up...

    by ______ Q ______

(I review the upgraded / in app purchased "premium" version) 11/24/13 - I really want to like this app. The recent updates are a step in the right direction. But, I now find it unusable due to the interminable length of time that it takes to drill down through cloud service folders (Box, Dropbox). Each folder tap leads to several seconds of delay as you watch "Refreshing folder < A... to... Z... one... at... a... time... >". No other app does this. What is the problem? I could live with that years ago but now I have other options. Other suggestions below still stand. -------------------- 4/13/12 - they did fix the new iPad issue returning the app to merely decent status, but took a long time at it. What could improve the app? My thoughts: 1) get rid of the annoying pop up notice that says "refreshing" when you drill through Dropbox folders. No other app seems to need it. 2) refresh starred recent documents automatically or with a "pull to refresh" option (like many other apps). It makes no sense to have drill down through folders to get a starred/favorite doc to be current! 3) find a different method of page turning. Pull and hold to turn pages is counter intuitive. How about a simple tap or swipe? 4) add some new features or tweaks. I don't get the impression this app gets much dev time despite the premium charged. ------------------------------- Used to be good, but not great app. Now not usable as document text only fills half the screen on new iPad.

  • Newest update

    by HappyPerson101

Ever since the newest update I can't edit my spreadsheets. It tells me there are unsupported formulas in some cells even though it didn't have problems with it before.

  • Pay twice...

    by diegofish2

Be ready to pay for install and then they charge you $7.99 to be able to use iCloud or I drive. This is ripoff

  • Do not download

    by Julebayisbei

This is not for editing excel files....all you can you left align, center, right align, bold, italics,or underline and that is it! Total waste of $$$$.

  • Upgrade makes this product unusable

    by SuvNot

This upgrade is problematic: 1. I can no longer import Excel 2008 files because DTG doesn't support files with "more than 256 columns", which the file I tried didn't have. 2. The associated desktop utility doesn't work with my non-intel G4 Mac. Waste of money!

  • BAD UPDATE

    by Mr. Melo

Since this new version, that I payed for, has updated onto my iPhone, it hasn't worked at all. Very inconvenient.

  • Frustrated user

    by Reader8546

After last update, app will not open. Crashes every time. Fix it now! I'm ready to look for something that works.

  • Scroll bar still missing

    by DanP81

The scroll bar on the right side of the document disappeared with a recent recent update and was not restored with the 11/14/13 update. Instead of grabbing the scroll bar to get to bottom of document, on one doc I have to swipe down 33 times now. Not an improvement. Hopefully this updat at least fixed the instability of Word docs I saw after previous update.

  • Unable to go to the bottom of a long document quickly

    by dave9099

The last update improved reliability and I like the product, but now the scroll bar on the right is so small I cannot grab it and pull to get to the bottom of the document quickly. Now I have to slap the screen multiple times to get to the bottom. No response to emails to support.

  • Still not working... Ugh

    by deh9832

Just updated again and it still crashes every time I launch it. This used to be a great app...now is useless.

  • Still can’t open password protected docs

    by amberlina

Prior to this v5 release, you could open password protected Office 2011 files. Now as of this current update, you can only open Excel files that are formatted for office 1997-2008. Really?! This is supposed to be an upgrade not downgrade. I refuse to purposely remove functionality of my files for use with this app. One star until this gets updated. Get it together DataViz!

  • Useless

    by Chilton Cabin

You have to upgrade to use iCloud. Difficult to edit documents. Wish I could get my money back!

  • New update

    by 160912

Someone needs to get fired for this upgrade.. It stinks.

  • New iPhone version issues

    by blueadept69

I actually like this app, and use it for quite a bit. I would lean toward more stars, but I can't due to the issues with the iPhone version that makes it mostly unusable. The app is supposed to retain its current state when switching between apps. It would previously let me open a sheet and then switch back and forth between apps, always taking me back to where I was. This no long works on the iPhone version. Instead, no matter where I am in the app, if I leave and come back in it will always take me to the list of desktops synced with. This includes letting the phone go to sleep and waking it again. If I was editing a file, I have to go back into the file list, scroll down to it, and re-open it. It will then ask if I want to go to the last unsaved version. Of course, it will then often crash leaving me back at square one, losing all my earlier changes. If you just want this for the iPad, it does work fine. But, don't expect to get any useful work done on the phone until they fix this problem.

  • HORRIBLE APP

    by Funkymonkydonttakemyname

Please do not waste your money on this app. You have no way of printing any documents that you create. What a horrible excuse for working with documents. This crap should not be allowed in the App Store.

  • Sync Issues from iPad to Computer

    by Bushmaster 76

Currently unable to pass docs created in iPad back to the MacBook Pro. Directions in order to troubleshoot are inadequate or unavailable. App historically was user friendly; not anymore. I do not recommend this product.

  • Horrible now!

    by snsjets

What used to work crashes constantly! Totally useless! No response at all from developer. What a joke!

  • Crashes all the time

    by jrg64

Worthless if it crashes so much. Don't waste your time, iphone 5.

  • Documents to Go-Standard Ver. 5.0.0013

    by bobreese

This has got to be the most useless program I have. When it works, I can live with it. However, now it is crashing, I am also having problems syncing. It Really is hard for me to recommend and I have used it for several years. They just don’t get.

  • Crashes

    by Shrich

If you email to the app and you try to open the document the app will crash. You then need to remove the app and reinstall. This is most inconvenient.

  • Frustrating experience

    by BLKH2O

After I began a business from my home in June of 2012, and being an OS X novice, I purchased this app to assist me in managing client docs, presentation, etc.. It worked exactly as advertised for 10 1/2 months. In May 2013, after an update, the app in my MBP stopped synching with the iPad. I’ve taken it to the “Geniuses” at the Apple store, they couldn’t figure out the issue. I’ve reached out repeatedly to the creators, and am yet to receive any feedback, whatsoever. After months of reading horror stories from other users, thinking that I was immune, the “Bug’ caught up with me. Do yourself a favor and avoid this app (for both iOS & OS X)! Use Dropbox or Google Drive (ugh!).

  • Used to Work

    by ssipad

After the last upgrade the app will not sync and I cannot open anything. Trying to go to any selected items (DOC, PDF,etc.) causes app to crash. Hope this gets fixed soon!

  • No email support?

    by larrybeo

Where is the email button within the program? Why must you have an Exchange Account for this to work? Why will it not work with my native gmail application that is already in my iPhone? Why can we not print directly from the device? HP offers an app to print pictures wirelessly from iPhone, Dataviz couldn't figure it out? Also, being able to upload files from this docs2go folder from another application like Safari is a neccesity. The way this app is now it is rather worthless, and does not function as a stand alone app at all- all files must be synced to your PC before you can do anything with them. At first I was excited this was only $5, but now I see why. It's not worth a penny more. At least incorporate email for non- Microsoft Exchange users?

  • Still no printing?

    by JDub25

Still no printing support? Guys, AirPrint has been out for years, and your competitors have printing support, please get with the times and add it. 10-25-2013 - I see AirDrop, a new iOS 7 feature that only works on the newest devices has been added, yet AirPrint which has been around for several years now is still lacking. I hate using inferior apps, but since they offer printing I must continue to do so as I have a need to print docs. I saw a review that said Dataviz is listening to customers, but I am beginning to doubt it since I've been begging for AirPrint for a while now with no response. As soon as they add it, I will go back to using their app solely and make this a 5 star review.

  • Ruined A Great App

    by Old Boulder Mac Guy

Been using DtG for years. First on Palm, now on iOS. New version, forced to upgrade to get Dropbox integration back, only to have the function added back on a couple of days later .1 release. Less intuitive/annoying "features", IMO. Great app messed up. Update, 10/25/2013 With the release of a new version of Numbers for iOS, DtG will no longer be my go-to spreadsheet app. Numbers has less compatibility issues (for me), plus with iCloud Numbers, can by-pass Dropbox for syncing, and obviously, can edit via iCloud. Neither solution is ideal, but Numbers has less headaches currently, for me. Will keep DtG on my devices, should the need ever arise for simple doc editing, but DataViz pushes a new pay-for “upgrade”, no way will I be spending the money.

  • No good anymore
